Marin County Covid Update

Vaccine Verification to Be Required for First Responders

Marin County Public Health announced a new public health order today that will require all Marin County first responder agencies (law enforcement, fire, Emergency Medical Services, etc.) to verify the vaccination status of their personnel. Personnel who are not fully vaccinated, or whose vaccination status is unknown, will be obligated to receive a COVID-19 test at least once a week and provide results to employers.

This order, effective on September 15th, 2021, is being issued in response to the continued health threat that COVID-19 poses in our community and workplace.

Skate Park Survey

The Parks and Recreation Committee (PARC) is looking at ways to create a permanent skate park. We are asking for your feedback so that PARC can share what the community would like to see happen in regard to making the current location permanent, at the October Council meeting. The survey will be open until 5pm on September 3rd.
Yellow School Bus - Stop Signal Arms

Just a friendly reminder that when you see yellow school buses with their stop signs extended and red lights flashing you must stop and not pass until the lights stop flashing when traveling either direction on a two-lane roadway (which is the case on all roadways in Fairfax).

On a four lane roadway the vehicles traveling the opposite direction of the school bus need not stop.

Failing to stop for a school bus is a violation of 22454 CVC. The fine is generally $800-$900. We would prefer to never have to issue citations for this violation. However, Fairfax Officers watch for these violations during their normal patrols and in directed traffic enforcement assignments!

Let’s all do our part in keeping our children safe!
Outdoor Dining Survey

In an effort to include as many community voices as possible, we are extending the survey until August 27th at 5pm!

We invite you to participate in our Outdoor Dining survey and share your thoughts about the current use, and potential future uses of public space in the downtown.

Feel free to be inventive and share your vision for downtown Fairfax!
Your input is crucial and appreciated.

The Planning Commission met on August 12th and discussed the importance of and possibilities around providing workforce housing and affordable housing, as well as potential zoning changes to help meet the Town’s RHNA requirements. The Commission also noted that when adopted the Objective Design and Development Standards (ODDS) toolkit will help ensure that the character of the Town is preserved as potential new units are added. Video of the 8/12 Planning Commission meeting will be posted on the Town PC meeting webpage and on fairfaxspeaks.com.

Looking ahead, future meetings include a joint Affordable Housing Committee meeting on September 8th, and a joint Town Council/ Planning Commission meeting on September 22nd. The notices for those meetings will be posted on the Town’s Public Meetings webpage. We encourage all of you to attend.

You can pick up your FREE Evacuation Tags at the Fairfax Police Department

The Fairfax Police Department in partnership with the Ross Valley Fire Department is giving away evacuation tags to residents living in the Town of Fairfax, Marin County, California. Evacuation tags are a new tool to help us more quickly ensure that neighborhoods are evacuated during a disaster. Residents affix the tag in a location that is highly visible when they evacuate (mailbox, front door, garage, end of your driveway).

Drought Water Restrictions are in Effect for All of Marin County

With reservoirs at historic lows, Marin Water's board of directors declared a water shortage emergency and adopted mandatory water use restrictions to help preserve our water supply. The goal of the mandatory restrictions is to achieve a 40 percent reduction in water use districtwide. We are monitoring drought conditions carefully and additional restrictions will be added as needed.

Spray irrigation is limited to one day a week. Each community has a designated watering day. Spray irrigation on Saturday and Sunday is not allowed. The designated watering day for Fairfax is Friday.
