FOURTH SUNDAY FOOD DRIVE

We will collect non-perishable items for our neighbors through Tempe Community Action Agency this Sunday, August 28. Current needs include:


  • Ziplock bags (gallon size)
  • high protein items (canned meats, peanut butter, tuna, low sugar protein bars)
  • canned fruit
  • ready to eat items that do not require refrigeration, utensils, or cooking
  • dried/canned beans
  • canned and boxed soups
  • boxed meals
  • dried fruit
  • 100% juice
  • canned vegetables
  • oatmeal
  • rice
  • granola bars
  • pasta
  • mac and cheese
  • multigrain crackers


Donations may be left on the benches at the front gate to be collected and delivered to TCAA following Sunday's services. If you're unable to bring food to donate, but would still like to contribute, click here.

FAMILY PROMISE
We host Family Promise, a temporary shelter for unhoused families, starting Sunday, September 4. Volunteer opportunities include room set up, tear downs, meal prep/clean up, and overnight hosting. Overnight hosts can sign up HERE. Please email Maria or Howard with questions or to volunteer. 

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL RETURNS

Adult Sunday School classes return in September. The 9:00 Explorer’s Class starts September 4 and the 10:30 Contemporary Issues Class starts September 11. Both will study the book “Who Stole My Bible? Reclaiming Scripture as a Handbook for Resisting Tyranny,” in anticipation of its author, Rev. Jennifer Butler, speaking at Dayspring on October 2. Books are available in the church office for $5.

BETWEEN STARTING SOON

BeTween, our fellowship and service ministry for kids in 4th-6th grade, begins on Wednesday, September 7 at 6:45 in Room 203. The first meeting with be informational and parents are invited to attend (although it is not required). Email Andrea for more information.

SPIRITUAL DIRECTION GROUPS

We are currently creating new Spiritual Direction small groups. This is a process in which people – usually four people – gather together on a regular basis – usually monthly – to assist one another in an ongoing awareness of God in all of life. If you are interested in learning more about these groups, please email Pastor Shirley. The first gathering will be Wednesday, September 7 at 10:30am on Zoom. At that time, upcoming meetings and times will be decided.

NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION

Are you new to Dayspring UMC or have you been attending for a while and are interested to know more about the church and what is involved in membership? We invite you to learn more about the UMC and Dayspring specifically, on Sunday, September 11 from 11:45 am - 1:15 pm. This will be a hybrid session, meeting in-person in Room 112 as well as on Zoom. Email the church office with questions or to register.

PRISON MINISTRY COLLECTION

Dayspring's Prison Ministry will be collecting books and yarn for the women at Perryville State Prison in Goodyear AND household items for the Magdalene House in Avondale. Needed items for the transitional house include: toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent (pods, powder or liquid), dryer softener sheets, large refill sized liquid hand soap for bathrooms, 2 new angled brooms, Circle K or Quik Trip gasoline cards, and city bus passes.  The team will have a table after services on September 11 and 18 for drop off. BIBLE SUNDAY

We look forward to presenting our third graders with Bibles on Bible Sunday, September 18. If you would like your child (in third grade or older if they have not yet received a Bible) to be presented with a Bible during this service, please email Andrea

UNASHAMED DSC YOUTH RETREAT

All LGBTQIA+ Teens and Allies in grades 9 - 12, are invited to attend the Desert Southwest Conference's weekend long retreat from September 30 - October 2 at Mingus Mountain Camp. The cost for "Unashamed" is $140 per person; $30 scholarships are available upon request from the conference and Dayspring has additional scholarships available. Register or learn more HERE.
