The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Colonial Courthouse.
Several important topics are on the agenda, including:
- An update from the Sheriff on automated license plate reader cameras, school bus/stop-arm cameras, ATVs and electric bikes
- Public hearings on the proposed Fox Mill rezoning and Community Development Authority (CDA)
- A public hearing on proposed water and sewer revenue bond financing
- A public hearing on an FY2027 budget amendment
- Discussion of a proposed oyster shell recycling program at the Old Page site
- Proposed changes to the County’s emergency water conservation regulations
- Consideration of setting a future public hearing on a disposable plastic bag tax
The meeting will also include a public comment period and other regular County business. Stay informed and follow along as the Board considers issues affecting our community.

We are getting so excited for the Gloucester Day Celebration taking over Main Street next Saturday (Sept. 5) in honor of Gloucester County’s 375th anniversary! A special thank you to Visit Gloucester Virginia for all the planning and coordination it has taken to provide this special day!

Voters! We're giving you a heads-up. Our Elections & Voter Registration team is preparing to host an election on Nov. 3, 2026. Early voting for this election starts on Sept. 18, 2026.
We're attaching a sample ballot here - please be diligent in looking it over (and sharing it). The more people who review and prepare ahead of time, the shorter the lines will be at the polls.

EXCITING PROGRESS FOR GLOUCESTER!
Gloucester County is proud to see construction officially underway on Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad’s new Station 1 on Main Street!
This new facility represents an important investment in the future of public safety and emergency response in our community. Once complete, the approximately 28,000-square-foot, six-bay station will provide GVFRS volunteers with modern space and resources to continue serving Gloucester residents when they need them most.
We are grateful for the dedication of the men and women of Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue and excited to see this long-awaited project moving forward!
Please use caution when traveling near the construction site at 6677 Main Street, and stay tuned for details about the official groundbreaking ceremony coming in September.

At the next Gloucester Resource Council meeting, Three Rivers Healthy Families Virginia will share how they help families with children (from pregnancy to 6 years of age) at no cost. They help build positive parent–child relationships, educate on child development, provide lactation support, and connect individuals with community resources.
If you work with young families, are expecting, or simply want to learn more, join the Resource Council September 2 from 9:30-11 in the Gloucester Main Street Library or by Zoom.

GRC is a network of non-profits, services, and agencies that meet the first Wednesday of every month to share resources and needs across the community.

Get ready! RiverJam 2026 is approaching!
Come join Arts on Main from 3-7 pm on September 12, 2026 for its TENTH Annual RiverJam Music Festival!
This year, enjoy great music from the Ballast Band, Edison & Company, and RaJazz! Try delicious food from local vendors and plan for lots of fun and dancing!

NEW at Beaverdam Park: Bird Bingo!
Calling all nature lovers, bird watchers, and families looking for a fun outdoor adventure! Join us on Saturday, September 19 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM for Bird Bingo at Beaverdam Park.
Explore the park, keep your eyes on the trees and skies, and see how many of our feathered friends you can spot along the way. Whether you are a budding birder or simply looking for a new way to enjoy the outdoors together, Bird Bingo is a fun way to experience Beaverdam Park!

Since 2021, Sherry Kosakowski with our Clean Community Division has been helping make Gloucester’s parks more beautiful, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone—and we are so grateful for all she does!
Sherry is currently bringing a grant-funded sensory garden project to life at Beaverdam Park, creating a space where visitors can explore, connect with nature, and experience the outdoors through the senses.
And just this week, she gave a well-loved park bench a beautiful renovation, giving it a fresh new life for visitors to enjoy.
Thank you, Sherry, for the care, creativity, and pride you pour into our community year after year. Your work makes a difference—and we’re lucky to have you helping our parks shine!

GLOUCESTER RANKS #1 IN REGION 3 FOR THE 2ND YEAR IN A ROW!
Day two, and we’re celebrating strong results while keeping our focus on what comes next.
Last year’s results show that GCPS is outperforming Virginia in every core tested area, ranking 1st in Region III in Math, 2nd in Reading and 3rd in Science. But we will not rest on our laurels.
This year, we are implementing new, or continuing to implent, HQIM high-quality instructional materials in Reading and Math for grades K–12, building on our progress and strengthening teaching and learning across the division.
At the same time, 92.6% of our teachers plan to remain at their school, and students report feeling safer than regional and state averages.
High achievement. Strong people. Safe schools. A new year of promise.
Thank you to our students, staff, families, School Board and Board of Supervisors for making these results possible,and for helping us continue moving forward.

Automotive Technology instructor Mr. Calloway knows how to get students’ attention. Nothing quite says engagement like the sound of a supercharged 6.2L LT4 Camaro V8 coming to life.
CTE is for everyone because CTE makes academics real.
Want to become a better writer? Learn how to cut hair, then explain the process clearly and precisely.
Want to understand history and culture? Learn to cook a recipe, then study where it came from and the people who created it.
Want to become a better problem solver? Build a bench. Wire a circuit. Diagnose an engine that will not run.
CTE requires students to gather information, solve problems, test solutions, make adjustments and produce something tangible. When it works, students experience something powerful: pride in their own work.
That is also why career readiness, work based learning and industry credentials are part of Virginia’s graduation expectations and its 3E framework of Enrollment, Employment and Enlistment.
CTE does not replace reading, writing, math, science or history. It gives students a reason to use them. A real world reason to learn!
Sometimes learning sounds like a pencil on paper.
Sometimes it sounds like a supercharged LT4 roaring to life.
