Reflections for Sunday:
Each week, Pastor Sarah will provide reflections on the readings for the following Sunday.
The readings for Sunday, September 1 center on hospitality and generosity. Hebrews 13 says, "Let mutual love continue.
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.
" And later, "Do not neglect to do good and share what you have." In the gospel reading Jesus advises us to sit in lowly places at the banquet table and when we host a meal to invite people who need a meal, not those who can repay us.
+ When have you felt welcomed to a place?
Someone's home? A hotel? A church?
+ What do you do to welcome someone to your home?
+ What does Christian hospitality look like? What do we do at St. Paul to show Christian hospitality to one another? To visitors?
Each week, Pastor Sarah will provide a short devotion for families based on the reading for the following Sunday.
Read: Luke 14:1, 7-14
Bring it home:
Here are some questions or activities to help you think and talk about the reading as a family.
+ How do you help someone feel welcome when you invite them to your house? What helps you feel comfortable at someone else's house?
+ Think of someone you would like to spend time with. What would they like to do? How can you help them feel welcome at your house?
Consider lighting a candle or having a cross to look at while you pray. Have someone pray this prayer:
"Dear God, thank you for our friends. Thank you for the strangers we meet who might become our friends. Help us to be kind to everyone. Amen!"
