On August 23rd, HSC celebrated our partnership of many years with Catholic Charities as the Veterans Outreach Center (VOC) operations on the Campus came to a close.
While we are sad to see the VOC wrap up on Campus, it doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of Chuck Ashby, Veteran’s Outreach Coordinator for Catholic Charities / MANA (Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force) House! A longtime champion of the Campus, spend two seconds with Chuck and you’ll notice his easy smile and signature suspenders. Spend two minutes with him, and you’ll find he has a true heart for his fellow veterans, a quick wit, and a mind for collaboration. As we recognized and thanked Chuck for his service to the nation and to our veterans, he said he feels like a teenager when surrounded with the energy of the Campus. Eighteen years ago on this ground, Chuck, through his own struggle, found renewed purpose.
Luckily for us, Chuck’s wisdom, expertise, and warmth will remain a guiding light. And for our veteran community, Chuck will continue his work as case manager at MANA House on Holly Street where veterans experiencing homelessness are provided transitional housing. We wish Chuck the very best on this next adventure! To Paul Mulligan, Carrie Mascaro, Danielle King and the many community leaders at Catholic Charities – a debt of gratitude. To all Catholic Charities staff who left a mark and changed lives on this Campus – thank you!! HSC and partner organizations will continue to help veterans end their homelessness via referrals to MANA House and a number of other programs on the Campus.
