Dear Northwest Christian family,

Week Two in the books! Another great week--a historic week--is in the books and I am deeply grateful to many! To our families, thank you for your tenacious support of the school! To our teachers, thank you for your courageous pursuit of our mission--the mission of Christian worldview being established within our students--during such an anxious time! To our students, thank you for being you--we missed you more than you know and we will never take your presence on campus for granted!

Kids get sick! We need to recognize that this year, like every other year, students will get sick and might even display symptoms which are consistent with COVID-19 even though it may not be the root cause. To help us keep our wits about us and not panic each time we hear a sneeze, I am going to keep our families in the loop on tracking within the Student Health Office. Each week, as we move through the first semester, I am going to provide a dashboard within the Week-at-a-Glance which enables us all to compare the daily number of illnesses, injuries, and total student visits within the health office in 2020/2021 against the same day in 2019/2020. As we review this data, we will observe the existing trends that happen year over year. You can see the first two weeks of the 2020/2021 school year (indicated in the chart as "2021") against the first two weeks of last year, 2019/2020 (indicated in the chart by "1920"), by clicking here. As well, starting this week, I want our families to see a similar comparison relating to total attendance and absenteeism. This week, please click here to get a perspective on attendance and absenteeism for 2019/2020 and next week, I will add the to-date data for 2020/2021.

What if my child has symptoms? Though the weather app on your phone may not agree, we are moving towards the change of seasons and cooler temperatures. As we do, inevitably students will begin displaying symptoms associated with allergies, colds, flu, and, unfortunately, Covid-19. As this happens, we will increasingly have questions about staying home and coming to school. To assist, I have distilled the applicable guidance from within the 16-page Campus Readiness Plan, pages 8 and 9, and made that conveniently available here.

Get connected! Find community! There is a place for every student at Northwest Christian School! No matter your interest, clubs and student activities are an opportunity to plug into a community of new friends, have fun, and make memories. Every Monday morning at 7:30am, a "Crusader Student Activities" email will hit the inboxes of parents and students. Want a preview of the email that you will get tomorrow morning? Click here!

Information from the Health Office: If your student has an allergy requiring an epi pen and you would like them to keep it with them instead of in the health office, please fill out this form and return to the health office asap. The health office still requires the action plan to be on file. It is also listed on the health page as the "food allergy emergency plan" form. We would like to know if the student keeps their EpI pen in their locker, backpack, or pocket.

This is to ensure staff is aware of where the epi pen is located in the event that it would need to be used.

Just a reminder, students must be within handbook guidelines for hair. Hair is to be neat, clean, and a “natural color.” No extreme styles allowed. When combed out, boys’ hair may not be over their eyebrows, earlobes or collars. Male students must be clean-shaven, beards and mustaches are not allowed.

September 15, Blood Drive Information here, parents are welcome to participate!

Please contact the school office when going on or off NCS Plus. This is very important as that accurate NCS Plus rosters are vital for our teachers. Your student's attendance may be adversely affected if communication is not happening correctly. Thank you!

After school pick-up: We are so glad you are back on campus! Please wait at the ramadas for pick-up. Thank you!

Middle School Lunches. As you know, we will not be utilizing lockers to start the year. In order to limit what students are carrying in their backpack, each first hour teacher will have a wagon to store students lunches in and will take it out to the lunch area when it is time to eat.

Before and After School. Are you looking for a place for your student to be before and after school while they are waiting for you to pick them up? Check out our our options here.
