We will register all Storm athletes for all meets, so you do not need to do anything!! All parents or coaches that would like to do the 4K open race you can register at the tent Saturday morning or at the meet. Coaches Corner

Boom Team!

You made it through the first 3 weeks!!! Now you are in a groove, now you are committed, and next week you’ll start to see running in a whole new way. Great job!

3 weeks down and 9 weeks to go!! So, LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

We just finished week 3 and yep, it’s always a doozy. All I can do at the beginning is encourage you to make it through, while not giving too much detail to make you quit…😊 Running is all about the journey, and you just proved why the journey is worth it! You’re met with a challenge, you face the challenge, and you kick right through the challenge!

All right, enough of what’s happened, now on to what’s coming.

Week 4 starts a new set of training as we shift to 2nd gear to start picking up speed, getting you ready to race. Racing is one of the best rewards of running. You work so hard, you eat well, you endure… so you can race your best! This Saturday you will be entering the first race of the season. It’s only a pre-season meet so it doesn’t count towards standings, but it gives you the opportunity to experience the entire process. From pre-race nutrition to pre-race jitters, to last minute bathroom stops, to getting on the line and giving it your all! We’ll give some more direction this week but there are 2 things I want to share right now: don’t over think racing and get ready for some fun! When you over think anything, you make it complicated and you end up stressing out… when you stress out… you don’t enjoy it and then you can’t get ready for some fun…. So, let’s make the decision today to “get ready for some fun”, sounds good?

A new set of training means we will start to run workouts a little faster, we’ll add intervals of hill repeats and flat sections, and work on increasing pace. Imagine a piece of granite as the start of the season and by the last race, we’ve carved a perfect image of YOU! During the first 3 weeks we took chunks out of the granite so we can start to see where your head and arms and legs will soon start to appear. This next phase of 3 -6 weeks will see YOU appear. The final 3 weeks will fine tune every detail of YOU from eyes to fingernails, to what kind of shoe you are wearing. The last week is all about polishing the granite of YOU and getting you ready to shine. I hope that gives a little image to think about… or it just tells you how crazy my mind works… 😊

Either way, the season is gearing up so be ready! The time trial was great last Thursday as you got to see what it feels like to push hard. I hope all of you realized this: while you are running, it’s up to you how hard you want to push.  When you finish, it only takes a few minutes to regroup and be back to normal breathing. Since that is the case, my question to you is why wouldn’t you push as hard as you can during the race? You never want to finish the race and tell yourself or one of the coaches “I could have given more”. I’ve always coached my athletes to treat a race like you are going into battle. You are entering gladiator arena and if you don’t want to win, or beat your competition, they will want to beat you. So be ready, wherever you race in the pack, to beat your competition!

I’ll see you out there and I look forward to getting you ready for some fun! Let’s make a deal, you make sure you come out to practice ready for some fun, and I’ll make sure to bring the fun to you!

I can’t wait to see every one of you blow away your expectations by the end of the season!

See you Monday night!
