Keeping in mind social distancing recommendations, the annual IVMA Foundation Sports and Field Day will be held at the Briarwood Golf Club in Ankeny. Help us fill the fairways to support the IVMA Foundation! Come out on August 26 for a fun day of golf with fellow IVMA members, industry professionals and new friends!
The IVMA is working with Briarwood Golf Club to ensure a safe and fun afternoon of golf for IVMA members and their friends. Briarwood Golf Club in Ankeny is considered one of the top golf courses in the Midwest, it is known for its challenging yet fun layout, appealing to golfers of all abilities. 

Proceeds from the golf outing will go towards providing scholarships for deserving Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine students.

Sports & Field Day Clay Shoot is back
The IVMA sporting clay/skeet shoot is back in 2020!

August 26
8:00 am -12 pm
Olofson Shooting Range, Polk City
Cost $35, includes 25 clays and 25 skeet targets (1 round) and ammunition.

Novices welcome! Shooters will be done in time to golf in Ankeny at 12:30.
Let us Know How Your Doing During the Pandemic
In April we conducted a survey on how veterinary clinics are handling the COVID-19 crisis. Now, three months later - How are you doing?

The survey was emailed to our members last week. If you haven't had a chance to complete it, please take time to share your viewpoint and contribute information on how the pandemic is affecting you & your business at this time. The survey should take about 3 minutes to complete.

The IVMA is planning an upcoming webinar with Iowa Medical Director, Dr. Caitlin Pedati to help answer your questions about the COVID-19 pandemic and how it affects veterinary clinics and their staff.

To ensure the webinar is as useful and relevant to IVMA members as possible, we are asking members to submit questions prior to Dr. Pedati's webinar.

Team George Gears Up for the Iowa Governor's Charity Steer Show
The IVMA and ISU CVM entry in the Annual Governor's Charity Steer Show is George, who is is owned by Earlham High School rising senior Garrett Moore. Our celebrity showman is Chris Williams of the Cyclone Fanatic website. Chris’ wife, Dr. Ashley Williams, is a member of the IVMA Executive Board representing District 14. 

Chris, Garrett and George recently spent some time together practicing for the big day (left).

With the cancellation of the Iowa State Fair, this year’s show will be held on August 15 at the Hansen Agriculture Learning Center at Iowa State University. The show raises money and awareness for the Ronald McDonald Houses of Iowa.

Because of COVID concerns, attendance for the 2020 Governor’s Charity Steer show is invite only. The show will be live-streamed for anyone to watch on the Governor’s Charity Steer Show Facebook pageTune in to cheer our team on from anywhere!
Emerging and Exotic Diseases of Animals Online Course
Learn about the causes and consequences of foreign animal diseases (FAD), how FAD’s are transmitted and introduced, the entities involved in a response to a FAD outbreak, what to do if a FAD is suspected, how veterinarians can be involved in a FAD response, and effective communication strategies from the comfort of your home or office.

This course is for veterinarians and veterinary technicians, animal health industry employees and government officials interested in high consequence animal diseases and the response to them. Veterinarians and veterinary technicians can earn up to 47 credits of CE through RACE (Registry of Approved Continuing Education of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards).

Participants receive the Transboundary and Emerging Diseases of Animals textbook, a $75 value (if outside the U.S. additional fees apply to cover shipping costs). Cost is $300.

Animal Health Virtual Symposium
Iowa Biotechnology Association (IowaBio) and Bio Nebraska Life Sciences Association (Bio Nebraska) are excited to announce the fourth installment of Animal Health in the Heartland, with this year's focus on Whole Animal Health.

The symposium will be held virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, August 18th and Wednesday, August 19th. Each day will feature two tracks of presentations to choose from in the morning. Attendees can attend presentations from a single Track or pick and choose between the various presentation options. Following a brief lunch break, attendees will be invited back to participate in a Speaker Meet & Greet, where they can continue discussions and pose additional questions to event presenters and hosts.

Farm Journal Field Days Features Dr. Dan Thomson
Dr. Dan Thomson, Chair of the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University and IVMA member, will be presenting at the Farm Journal Field Days, a new online farm show from Farm Journal.

The event will take place August 25-27.

Dr. Thomson will be presenting in the session, "What Will Livestock Technology Look Like in the Face of COVID-19?” and will take a look at the future in a post COVID-19 era.

Pay it Forward by Helping Vet Students Earn Bovine Scholarships
Boehringer-Ingelheim Animal Health (BIAH) is helping to support future bovine practitioners in Iowa by offering the IVMA Future Service Scholarships to cattle veterinarians graduating from the Iowa State University (ISU) College of Veterinary Medicine.

If you use IVMA's Green and Gold Tag Preconditioning program you can help fund the scholarship. The amount of the scholarships will be determined by veterinarian and producer customers submitting box tops from Pyramid, Pyramid + Presponse SQ or Express FP product boxes.

Box tops totaling 100 doses earn a $5 donation toward the IVMA Future Service Scholarships. BIAH will award up to $15,000 depending on the number of box tops. Scholarships will be awarded in 2020 for graduating seniors at Iowa State who intend to primarily practice bovine veterinary medicine in Iowa.
