Part of the METRONext Moving Forward Plan, this project aims to develop a new METRORapid line running for 25.3 miles. The line would operate in a dedicated, transit-only lane to move through traffic.

The University Corridor begins at the Westchase Park & Ride near the intersection of the Westpark Tollway and the Sam Houston Tollway. It ends at Tidwell Transit Center, near the intersection of Tidwell Road and U.S. Highway 59.

Free COVID booster shots are available
Houston’s CDC COVID-19 Community Level is currently MEDIUM. The latest 14-day average COVID-19 positivity rate is 21.1% and the wastewater virus load is 502% of the baseline.

Make sure you are up to date on your COVID-19 vaccines by getting all recommended doses, including a booster when eligible. Vaccination helps protect you from serious illness, hospitalization, and death; it also helps reduce spread.

HOV/HOT lanes open on weekends
for summer pilot program
The Express Lanes that help you avoid traffic on weekdays will soon be open seven days a week as part of a regional pilot mobility program approved by METRO's Board of Directors.

HOV/HOT (Express) Lanes managed by METRO will be open on weekends through Monday, September 5. This includes the Labor Day holiday. Weekend and holiday operations will follow the same schedule, occupancy requirements and tolls as weekdays.

Lanes included in the pilot program run down the middle of Interstate 45, U.S. Highway 59 and U.S. Highway 290.
Minority business grants
Minority-owned Houston businesses and nonprofits will soon have a chance at tens of millions of dollars in grants through a city-run program aimed at social justice initiatives.

The Houston Fund for Social Justice and Economic Equity will begin taking applications beginning August 9, hoping to provide grants of $10,000 to $65,000 to hundreds of businesses.

Created in 2021, in part as a response to the May 2020 murder of Houston native George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer and the global protests that followed, the fund was bolstered by a $20 million donation last year from Wells Fargo. That money will become available to applicants and can be used to buy assets, such as equipment and property.

To apply, the business or nonprofit must be in the Houston-area, have 50 or fewer employees, be led by people of color and have been established by December 31, 2021. Click here to submit applications from August 9 to August 23.

community-based art courses offered
Flexible Access is a pilot program of pay-what-you-can, community-based art courses for students 17 and up.

In 2022, Art League Houston is kicking off a multi-year initiative to re-imagine the role of an Art League School to foster radical imagination, reduce economic barriers to art education and impact positive social change through the arts. 2022-23 will be a pilot year as new-and-revitalized programming is slowly rolled out throughout the year. This program marks the start of a larger initiative to prioritize arts access and equity taking place at the ALH school.

Lemond Kitchen provides full-service catering, alcohol beverage service and event production.

Chef Reggie Martin discovered his passion for food at a young age while working for Lemond Catering, his family’s business in Houston. In 2003, Reggie and his wife, Merinda Watkins-Martin, took over the family business.

Combining Reggie’s passion for great food and Merinda’s dedication to quality service, Lemond Catering soon earned a reputation for making every event — from intimate affairs to major corporate galas — an incredible experience.
Together, the couple launched the Lemond Kitchen brand in 2013, which allowed them to create a line of retail products and expand the company through new food concessions and catering contracts.
