From The Pastor's Desk...
What a Sunday we had last week! 4 families visited, our nursery was used, coffee hour treats fed 6 at the children's sermon, and passing the peace took a wonderfully long time!
As a pastor, days like those are special, because the gifts I bring mean nothing unless there is a Church family here to worship, learn, and love. When I first saw the motto here - "where everybody is somebody and Jesus is Lord" - it warmed my heart. And I see it in action, time and again - and I see what a difference it makes in people's encounter with God here in the Church and in the way they look at the world when they go out from 1 Winchester Court.
As a pastor, I mainly serve the people who show up - by coming to worship, joining our e-mail and Lifelines lists, joining in fellowship, texting back and forth with me in the virtual realm. But it's the members who spread the word about how faith is brought alive at Lord of Life. I didn't get the stories of what brought these guests, but I saw their presence among us, and I was filled with gratitude and with energy for mission.
Covid will likely complicate life again - though I imagine we will continue to offer in-person ministries plus resume Zooming (YouTube stayed constant) - but I hope we can find ways to keep sharing God's love as we settle in to fall schedules. If last week was any indication - we have great adventures ahead!
Peace,
"Many people mistake our work for our vocation. Our vocation
is the love of Jesus." - Mother Theresa

Special Service Worship Volunteers: Seeking Grandparent/Grandchild pairs for our service on September 12th (Grandparents' Sunday). Works In Progress:
Our Sanctuary "Pray-Ground": We are trying out an idea to have a kid-friendly area in worship where little ones can move and play with minimal distraction (and really, that distraction just directs us towards God's love for all!). We are looking for a small rug, quiet toys (Beanie Babies and Duplo blocks especially), and kids' fidget toys.
Pastor Wen Continues To Collect Small Containers:
1. Baby food containers, spaghetti sauce jars (glass or plastic), etc for a fall eco-project; and 2. Food items we can tape closed to build a little kitchen/food shoppe in the Fellowship Hall, for little ones to play while adults connect. (Example - the Goldfish box in the picture below).

Special Appeal:
Hope Alive Clinic
For many years, Lord Of Life Lutheran Church has supported the Hope Alive Clinic and the Penny Miller Sewing Academy in Haiti. Recent political events have brought danger and stress to Haitian citizens and institutions, especially Hope Alive's ministry.
Our Church Council has approved a special appeal to support Hope Alive. We are in the process of receiving approval of matching funds from Thrivent as well.
Please consider making a contribution to Hope Alive. Checks should be made out to Lord Of Life Lutheran Church with a note indicating "Hope Alive Clinic". The appeal ends the weekend of August 28th and 29th. Thank you in advance for your support!

More Information To Be Shared
Penny Miller will be speaking about the situation in Haiti during all services this coming weekend, August 7th and 8th. You will be able to ask her questions then as well. The link below to a letter written by Penny, will also offer incite and information.
