Discussions To Reopen The Lord Of Life Campus
August 7th LifeLines Update:

COVID-19 is a virulent virus that can be transmitted among people.  Because of its threat to the general public, health experts and government officials advised churches to suspend all worship and indoor activities as of March 15.
Since then, Lord of Life has developed a task force to gather information from the congregation and evaluate how the virus may affect our building/grounds and future worship practices.  Members of this task force, led by Rick Krause and Sandy O'Neal, are Dr. Alan and Cheryl Dennison, Joyce Harper, Lu Hourihan, Fran Jones, Kim Mattson, Janell Reich, Breanne Tomlinson, and Dennis Yates.
The first step of the task force was to survey the congregation.  Using the survey results, as well as guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the task force compiled a list of recommendations for reopening our building/grounds and resume on-site worship.  In order to best protect the safety of all individuals in the family of God at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, the task force has recommended a 4-stage plan.
Church Council is reviewing the recommendations of the task force and will determine when to implement each stage of the plan.  Specifics of the plan will be sent to the congregation once Council has completed its review.  This process will probably take a few more weeks.
If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please feel free to contact Sandy O'Neil or Rick Krause.

June 2020 Blood Drive,
The Lord Of Life Campus

Thanks And News

One of our June Blood Drive leaders, Bill Dreisbach, received the following note of thanks from the Red Cross.  We wanted to share this with all of you.

Dear Valued Blood Program Leader,
Thank you for hosting a blood drive. Your willingness to open your doors and recruit blood donors is vital to the lives of the patients that we serve. Your support and generosity helps to ensure blood needs are met locally. And, once that is done, assists the Red Cross in ensuring blood is available when and where it is needed the most.  The ongoing fulfillment of our mission depends on you!
Your blood donations received in June are now on their way to helping hospital patients at the hospitals listed below. You and your team should be proud!
On behalf of the hospitals and patients we serve, thank you for your continuing support of the Red Cross!

Temple University Hospital
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital

Inspira Medical Centers, Inc.
Lankenau Hosptial

(While there may have been other hospitals that benefited from your efforts, these hospitals received the majority of blood products collected from your drive.)

A Message From Breanne Tomlinson, Director Of Children And Youth Ministries:

BFF And Senior High Youth
Hi Everyone,

I wanted to reach out and give you an update about our BFF program for this fall.  Letters will go out this week with a tentative schedule and registration form.  We will begin BFF on Sunday, September 13th from 10:00 -10:45 AM outdoors on the church campus.  In order to keep in line with safety protocols, we will be having smaller groups, all classes will be spaced apart to ensure proper distancing, hand sanitizer will be administered, masks will be required (and available if needed), and we will adhere to all safety rules.  Take time to look through the letter, and fill out the registration form.

Senior High Youth will be meeting on Sunday, September 13th from 3:00-5:00 PM, outdoors on the church campus.  We will be dying t-shirts, playing corn-hole, and meeting the new 9th graders.  Please be assured that we will be following all safety regulations involving proper distancing, hand sanitizing, and mask wearing.  Masks will be available to those who need one.
 ++++++

For both events, safety is important, so please know that we will change or adapt as necessary.  I appreciate all of your support, and I hope that we will be able to meet up again.  Feel free to reach out to me with any questions.  A link to my email is below.

Project LOL:

Outer Surfaces Cleaned,
Interior Painting In Progress

Another major maintenance project has been completed at Lord of Life.  The outer church walls, steps and sidewalks have been cleaned.  Many years of accumulated dirt, grime, and mold have been removed.  Be sure to take notice of our new sparking appearance when you pass by the church building.
The other project underway is painting many interior areas.  The church office was painted and rearranged to give our Church Secretary, Debbie Chromeck, a more efficient work space.  Other areas where painting was done were the offices of the Pastor, Youth Ministry Leader Breanne Tomlinson, Adult Ministry Leader Janell Reich, and Maintence Head Dennis Yates, and the Library.  Also, the following areas are scheduled to receive new paint:  the Nursery Room, the Kitchen (this coming week), the downstairs Church School room, and the stairway leading to that room.  In mid-September, a professional painter will paint the Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, and the hallways in the main building.
Want To Help With The Remaining Painting?  Please Email Dennis Yates.  A Link Is Provided Below.

Special Report:
Producing Our
Virtual Church Services
How Is It Done?

Beginning each Sunday at 9 AM, Lord of Life members are able to view the weekly church service on YouTube. The service lasts about 45 minutes and can be viewed again at any time in the future. Have you ever wondered how the service is put together and completed? The editors were curious, and we thought you might be as well. What follows is an overview of how it happens.

Initial Planning:

The service that appears on YouTube is currently a completely pre-recorded service.  There were some issues with providing a live version such as service time, participant coordination and availability, etc., so using the pre-recorded format seemed best.
The first step is to create the plan of the worship service.  The Worship & Music Committee created the Summer Worship Booklet way-back in March. This booklet was modified slightly to match what you currently see in the videos.  General planning coordination with Pastor Stoner takes place to determine who will be sharing the message/sermon each week.
Joyce Harper manages the assisting minister assignments while John McMichael coordinates lector and prayer-reading assignments.  This is done weeks in advance.  Debbie Chromeck emails the weekly Celebrate to all participants several days before the recording session.  There is an edited outline provided to the assisting ministers giving cues and information that they can use during the service.
Debbie also creates the worship projection material for announcements and prayers each week. The children's sermon must be planned for as well.  Breanne Tomlinson and Rick Krause determine who provides the message each week.  Both the regular and children's sermons are rehearsed prior to the recording session.

The Music:

Rick Krause researches and puts together the entire liturgy that we use each week.  The songs and musical selections are based on the theme and readings of the day, as well as the prayers.  The songs generally come from Lutheran sources (ELW hymnal), and some selections are also chosen from contemporary worship and praise collaborators as well.  (Bonus Point Question:  Can you determine who is singing during each service?)

Recording The Service:

Once the planning process is final, the recording must be made.  Bill Reich provides the tech support on this.    Recording sessions for a Sunday service usually occur  the Thursday morning prior to the weekend.  Participants that do not wish to record in the church have their section of the worship service recorded via a ZOOM meeting.  All  recordings are collected by Bill to be incorporated into the service.
Normally recording sessions at the church run smoothly.  However, the one that took place on Thursday, July 9th, proved to be quite a challenge.  The new roof was still being completed, and the workers were installing shingles on the Sanctuary roof.  We asked them to turn off the music that they were playing, but we did not want them to stop the shingle installation.  When the recording began, the hammering proved to be too noisy.  We moved our recording session to Fellowship Hall.  The window facing Tabernacle Road looked like a great spot, but while recording, workers walked by and cars passed on the street.  Some editing took place to remove or hide unwanted distractions.

Editing, Publishing, and Posting:

Each individual segment of the service is digitally pieced together.  (There are six different software applications used in the process.)  Copyright notices are placed into all of the recorded songs.  Announcements are added to the beginning and end of the video as well.  Generally speaking, for each hour of video that is recorded, there is another hour of post-processing/editing that occurs.  It takes roughly ten hours each week to produce the 50 minute video you see on Sunday.  Once completed, the entire service is "published" on the church's YouTube site.  A post with the direct link (A link is provided below.) to that YouTube site is placed on the church's Facebook site as well. Debbie provides the link to all via an email a few days before the service.  The LifeLines also contains information about service times and how to connect using your computer.

Thanks to all who make our services possible!

  Support For Bridge Of Peace
July 29, 2020 Delivery Made

Our collection of food and toiletries is continuing.  On July 29th Betty Mastrillo filled her car with donated items and a delivery was made.  She was greeted by Pastor Giselle who was most thankful for our generosity.
The special appeal for toiletry items such as the small bar soap, small shampoos, tooth brushes, tooth paste, wipes, disposable razors, etc. remains in place.  They have seen a marked increase in providing for the homeless during COVID-19 pandemic, and these items are in great need.
A black container to deposit your donations has been placed by the entry way to the FDC/Grace Place Building at the church campus.  It is near to the one for the Christian Caring Center and is labeled for Bridge of Peace.  All food should be non-perishable and will not need refrigeration prior to opening.
A list of other needed items can be found in the previous LifeLines issue.  A link is provided here:

Thank you to all who have contributed!

Grace Place Preschool Registrations

Although the Grace Place Preschool is not in session due to COVID-19, we are still accepting registrations for the 2020-21 school year. Please email Deborah DeMarco at
director@graceplacenj.com for a registration form. At this time, we will not be hosting any tours. An email link is below.  Thank you!

Teller Positions Are Available

Lord of Life is in need of Tellers. Typically a teller works in a team of 3-4 people, and teams rotate so that each team does one weekend a month. No experience is necessary, and training will be provided.
For more information or to join the team, please contact Carol Ebersberger, Lord of Life Church Financial Secretary, by emailing her.  A link to her email is below.

Continuing Your Contributions

Your continuing financial support is essential to maintain the Ministries of Lord Of Life. Your envelopes can be mailed to the church (1 Winchester Court, Tabernacle, NJ 08088) and Simply Giving remains in place.
Offerings can also be made via a secure website and cell phone app. More information about these ways to contribute can be found on the church's website.  The link is below.
Despite our building being closed, the work of the church is going on. Our Vice Pastor and the staff are actively engaged, and the need to pay bills and the mortgage continue. Prayerfully consider continuing with your regular contributions.

Stewardship Team News

The Stewardship Team will soon begin to plan for our fall season mailings and church services talks. Becoming part of the team can bring in ideas that will be most beneficial. Besides those functions, the team assists in the distribution of church envelopes (once a year) and mailing/distribution of contribution statements (three times a year). If you would like to be a part of our group, please contact the team leader, Jim Cuviello by email. A link is provided below.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
