City Manager's Proposed FY 2027 Budget



On Tuesday, August 4, the Long Beach City Council heard the first budget hearing presentation of the season. This hearing provided an overview of the City Manager’s proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget and the Mayor’s recommendations to that proposal. During the next five weeks, the Council will be hearing from each department on individual budgets prior to the final adoption of the budget tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 2026. PRM Fall Class Registration Now Open



The department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will offer over 700 activities this fall for all ages throughout the City. Classes will start in September and extend through November 2026. Requesting a Cart Size Exchange



If you are interested in changing the cart size of your recycling, organics or refuse cart, there are two ways you can submit a request. You can submit a form online at this link to select the cart size you would like, or give a call to 
(562) 570-2876. You will need to verify account information such as an account number and the cart's serial number.

FREE Physical Therapy Clinic at The Beach

Signups open thru August 25th

PT @ The Beach is a full-service physical therapy clinic that treats various injuries and conditions that are orthopedic in nature such as lower back pain, chronic pain, and post-operative conditions (knee, hip, shoulder replacements, etc.). Signups are open now thru August 25th, and the 9-week clinic will start September 1st and 2nd. Patients will be seen by a team of two physical therapy students under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. Rehabilitation of Alamitos Tanks

Begins August 2026 | M-F 7 am - 3 pm | 3627 E PCH



Advanced Industrial Services, Inc. will be rehabilitating two water tanks at the Alamitos Reservoir. The work will include interior blast cleaning and recoating, exterior spot painting, piping replacement, cathodic protection, structural repairs, and site drainage modifications. Community Band Concert at Stearns Park



This year marked the 79th anniversary of the LB Community Band, and they had a wonderful welcome at Stearns Champions Park for their only performance in CD4 on Monday night. Attendees enjoyed a great performance by the talented ensemble and closed the night with a Movies in the Park showing for Goat. Thank you to everyone who attended and for your ongoing support to the Community Band.

LBPD National Night Out in CD4



The Long Beach Police Department invited neighbors, community groups and businesses to join them in celebrating the 43rd Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4th. LBPD joined over 38 million individuals from 17,000 communities across all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide. With our council meeting adjourning early, I was able to join gatherings in the El Dorado Park South and El Dorado Park Estates neighborhoods.

The City of Long Beach hosts FREE Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) & Electronic Waste Collection Events every 2nd & 4th Saturday of the month at EDCO Recycling & Transfer Center in Signal Hill. The Beach Comes to the Los Altos Library

Parks & Rec After School Programming

Registration opens Monday, August 10th at 9am



Registration for After School Programs hosted by the City's Parks, Recreation & Marine department opens on Monday, August 10th at 9am. Youth can enjoy activities such as games, arts, tournaments, cooking, homework assistance, movies, and holiday celebrations. After School Programs are non-custodial for children 5 to 12 years of age therefore, participants may come and go at their own discretion. LBACS Low-Cost Vaccine Clinics

Long Beach Animal Care Services and Camp Clinics are hosting low-cost vaccine clinics on Tuesday, August 11th and Friday, August 14th from 10 am to 2:30 pm. Long Beach Vaccination & Resource Fair

The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services will host “Superheroes Shield Up for School,” a back-to-school vaccination and resource fair, from 3 to 7 pm on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, at the Main Health Facility (2525 Grand Ave.). This free superhero-themed event will help families prepare for the new school year with school-required vaccinations, connections to community resources and family-friendly activities. The event will also feature free food, back-to-school giveaways, games, superhero-themed activities and opportunity prize drawings for children who receive a vaccine. State Cert Training - LBFD Training Center

Alamitos Tanks on Reservoir Hill in CD4

With the Alamitos water tanks rehab project featured in today’s newsletter, we thought we would provide some history of the Alamitos Reservoir. The twenty four water tanks sit atop Reservoir Hill which, at 170 feet above sea level, is the highest point or ridge within the City of Long Beach. The area is in Council District 4 just northeast of Redondo and PCH. The tanks were built in the mid-1930’s as part of a New Deal Works Progress Administration (WPA) project. The tank construction photo with the oil derricks in the background was taken on September 11, 1936. The color photo is a screenshot from the 1954 film, “A Star is Born”. That’s James Mason and Judy Garland in the yellow 1954 Mercury heading east on PCH at Redondo. The water tanks are in the background reflecting the setting sun. The green “Palmistry” house sat at the NW corner of Redondo and PCH where the Jack in the Box is now located.
