Supervisor Andersen Celebrates National Night Out
On Tuesday, August 4th, Supervisor Andersen joined neighbors throughout Contra Costa County in celebrating National Night Out, an annual event that brings communities together to strengthen neighborhood connections and support crime prevention efforts.
Supervisor Andersen was pleased to host a National Night Out gathering in her own neighborhood, welcoming residents for an evening of conversation, camaraderie, and community spirit. The event provided an opportunity for neighbors to get to know one another, reconnect with friends, and build the relationships that help create safer, more resilient neighborhoods.
National Night Out is a nationwide initiative that encourages residents, law enforcement, first responders, and community partners to come together in support of public safety. From neighborhood block parties and barbecues to ice cream socials and community gatherings, these events foster trust, encourage civic engagement, and remind us that strong neighborhoods begin with connected neighbors.
Supervisor Andersen extends her sincere thanks to everyone who participated and helped make the evening a success. By taking time to meet one another and build lasting connections, residents are helping create communities where everyone feels welcome, supported, and safe.

Tree Removal Work Along Danville Boulevard, Alamo
Contra Costa County Public Works has worked with an arborist to develop a tree management plan, and this work is part of the final phase of a planned multi-year project along Danville Boulevard in Alamo.
This work will improve public safety and maintain the long-term health of the trees in this area. A two-step process will be used to remove all branches on the first day, with complete tree removal taking place on the second day.
This phase of the project will be in the area of 1392 Danville Boulevard and will be performed Wednesday, August 12th through Friday, August 14th, between 9 AM to 4PM. Traffic control will be used. Drivers should expect delays of up to 10 minutes through the work area.

On August 4th, Supervisor Andersen had the pleasure of speaking with the Danville San Ramon Rotary Club, sharing updates on key County initiatives, current priorities, and projects impacting District 2 and communities throughout Contra Costa County. She also enjoyed hearing directly from Rotarians and engaging in a thoughtful discussion about the issues that matter most to local residents.
Supervisor Andersen appreciates the opportunity to connect with community organizations like Rotary and thanks them for their continued commitment to service and making a positive impact in our community.

Contra Costa County TRUTH Act Community Forum
The Contra Costa County TRUTH Act Community Forum to
discuss civil immigration enforcement activities in Contra Costa County is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25th at 10 AM, during the regular Board of Supervisors meeting.
The forum will present Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office 2025 data on responses to ICE Requests for Notification for serious and/or violent offenders currently in custody, in compliance with state law.
The annual forum has been held since 2017 in accordance with California's Transparent Review of Unjust Transfers and Holds (TRUTH) Act, which requires local jurisdictions to hold a public forum and report on certain interactions with federal immigration authorities.

Traffic Delays Expected on Diablo Road Through October 15th
Drivers traveling through the Diablo and Blackhawk area should plan for extra travel time as construction continues on the Town of Danville's Diablo Road Multi-Use Trail Project.
Daytime lane closures between Fairway Drive and Alameda Diablo will create significant delays, especially during weekday morning and afternoon commutes and school drop-off and pick-up times.
Once completed later this year, the project will provide the final trail connection between the Barbara Hale Trail and Mount Diablo State Park. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time or use alternate routes when possible.

Improved Safety Measures Installed at
Iron Horse Trail Crossing in Alamo
Contra Costa County Public Works’ Transportation Engineering Division, in partnership with Supervisor Andersen, has completed the installation of a new pair of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) on the Iron Horse Trail crossing at La Serena Avenue in Alamo.
This trail crossing presented a unique opportunity to strengthen pedestrian safety. Located approximately 100 feet from Danville Boulevard, the crossing experiences a high volume of vehicle traffic. The Iron Horse Trail itself welcomes more than a million users each year, including many students from nearby Rancho Romero Elementary School, which resumes classes in August.
The newly installed RRFBs utilize technology that automatically senses the presence of trail users and provides a warning to approaching motorists. By improving driver awareness and response times, the system enhances safety for pedestrians and cyclists of all ages.
These safety enhancements along a high‑volume corridor support the well‑being of the community and align with broader goals of promoting walkability, sustainable transportation, and public health. As a reminder, both bicyclists and pedestrians should always obey traffic laws set forth by the California Vehicle Code. This includes stopping at marked stop signs at the trail crossing and proceeding with caution to ensure everyone’s safety.

Funding Opportunity for Community-Based Organizations
Contra Costa County's Office of Racial Equity and Social Justice (ORESJ) has released Request for Proposals (RFP) #255 seeking community-based organizations to provide services through the Federal D. Glover Community Wellness Network. The County anticipates awarding up to $1.25 million annually to expand culturally responsive programs supporting behavioral health, family and maternal health, housing navigation, reentry services, preventive health care, and public benefits navigation.
Proposals are due September 4th by 5 PM. Interested organizations should plan on attending the virtual bidders' information sessions, which are offered on August 12th and August 18th.

Juvenile Justice Reentry & Prevention Services
RFP Now Open
The Probation Department has funding available for Juvenile Justice Reentry Programs and Prevention Programs. To apply for these funding opportunities, please click BidNet to learn more on how to register, review the RFP's available, and submit bids.
The Juvenile Justice Reentry Programs are intended to provide reentry services to Probation youth ages 15-21 for a three-year contract period. Funding awards under this RFP will be allocated by priority regions to be served (1) West County ($300,000), (2) Central and East County ($600,00), and (3) high need/high risk youth countywide ($1,200,000).
The Juvenile Justice Prevention Programs are intended to implement or expand effective strategies for preventing or reducing juvenile crime through services designed to support non-justice system-involved youth, youth at-risk of system involvement, and/or youth with limited system exposure. Funding awards under this RFP, totaling $1,500,000, will be allocated to multiple projects over a three (3) year period.

Make Your Voice Heard on Bay Area Transportation Funding Priorities
The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is seeking public input on their Draft 2027 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP includes more than 400 transportation projects with over $13.8 billion in committed federal, state and local funding for federal fiscal years 2027 through 2030. The TIP's goal is to identify near-term transportation funding priorities for projects throughout the Bay Area, including investments in transit, highways, local streets and roads, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, bridges, and freight movement.
The public comment period deadline is August 12th at 5PM.

The Great Elephant Migration Comes to the Tri-Valley

Lafayette Res Run for Education on October 18th
The City of Lafayette and the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce are co-sponsors of the Lafayette Res Run for Education which will be held Sunday, October 18th, with the Reservoir Challenge held October 10th-17th.
The Run is the city’s most popular “family affair,” involving kids, parents, grandparents, and hundreds of serious runners from throughout the Bay Area. Sprinters, walkers, the “stroller brigade” and many of Lafayette’s top four legged residents are welcome to join in the fun as well.
Back by popular demand is the Reservoir Challenge, a virtual race which “runs” around the 2.7-mile paved trail of the Lafayette Reservoir October 10th-17th. The Reservoir Challenge is great opportunity to safely walk or run the Reservoir on your own, perhaps beating your time from last year. This virtual race can be completed anywhere but we encourage you to walk/run the Lafayette Reservoir!
