Sunday's celebration of the Feast of the Transfiguration at Christ Church Eureka took on a special significance: it was 125 years ago that Eva Lee Matthews and Beatrice Henderson made their religious vows at St. Luke's, Cincinnati, marking the formal establishment of the Community of the Transfiguration (CT). Humboldt County was blessed for decades by the ministries of Sisters Lydia, Alice, Teresa, and Diana who were resident in the Community's West Coast branch house until five years ago. CT Associates of the Community of the Transfiguration from all over the United States participate in the spiritual life of the Community as a part of their ongoing life in the world.

CIM Advocacy Team - ACTION ALERT
Congress is out for summer!
“This post is about recess! No, not the kind in the school yard with swings and jungle gyms, but the Congressional kind when Congress is not in session. Many members return to their homes for “district work periods.” The August recess is one of the longest blocks of time this occurs, and many members will set up local events to engage with constituents like you while they’re home.”
The Advocacy Team urges you to take this opportunity to connect with your members, get to know them, and weigh in on issues that concern you.
For details and guidance on how to connect, click here to read the whole post from the Episcopal Office of Government Relations.

The Episcopal Church hosted a festival in Baltimore in July. The focus of the festival was LOVE, and how, as followers of Jesus, we can grow in our capacity to love.
There were worship services, speakers, workshops, and panel discussions centering on Evangelism, Racial Reconciliation, and Creation Care.
The Commission for Intercultural Ministries funded Jo Ann Williams to attend the festival. She co-facilitated a session with all of the Sacred Ground graduates to discuss Dr. Catherine Meeks’ article, “Looking for More Than Ally,” a meditation from her book, The Night is Long but Light Comes in the Morning. (Dr. Meeks is the Executive Director of the Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing.) Jo Ann also attended many sessions to gain knowledge about ways we can continue to strengthen our ministries in the diocese of Northern California.
One of the experiences that was a festival highlight was Presiding Bishop Michael Curry’s sermon at the revival worship. Click here to view the video of his message.
Jo Ann created a report of the sessions she attended. To learn more about the sessions she attended at the festival, please click this link.
The Episcopal Church also has a web page devoted to the festival. Click here to view the webpage.
The Commission for Intercultural Ministries looks forward to integrating best practices from the festival into our diocesan CIM ministries.

National Public Radio program features a story on the support for migrants abandoned in Sacramento |
Last Wednesday, August 2, NPR's All Things Considered national broadcast featured a story about the Sacramento faith community's response to the plight of asylum-seekers that were dropped in Sacramento in early June. The story includes interviews with Shireen Miles, a parishioner from Trinity Cathedral, who has been deeply engaged with the migrants since their arrival. Also interviewed was Dean Matthew Woodward.

Join Education for Ministry at Trinity Cathedral!
Education for Ministry (EfM) is not a program that funnels people into ordination, nor does it force you to volunteer more at your church. EfM is instead a powerful, immersive, and scholarly program that benefits any adult interested in learning more about the Bible and our Faith. People walk away from EfM with a mature understanding of how the Bible was composed and how its different components fit together. Folks learn how to reflect theologically on their life and their current experiences. And most importantly, EfM brings individuals together into a community knit together by the Holy Spirit. Joining EfM is truly a transformative experience.
And Trinity Cathedral is excited to make joining EfM available to folks throughout the Diocese. Over the last few years we have practiced and honed in the skills to facilitate strong hybrid classes. You can come to the Trinity campus to join us if you're close by, or if you live too far away you can join the cohort via Zoom. If you've heard about EfM but your local congregation hasn't been able to offer it, this is a great way to experience the program. To lean more and see if EfM is a good fit for you, please e-mail EFM@trinitycathedral.org

Trinity Cathedral Choir England Pilgrimage a resounding success
The Trinity Cathedral Choir had an extraordinary week during our residency at Exeter Cathedral. Our hosts were very complimentary, including this from the Dean of Exeter: "It's rare to have an American choir that knows how to chant the psalms!"
For those who missed it, you can view the Livestream of the final Sunday morning Eucharist here:
https://www.youtube.com/live/BO31QEo5BDs?feature=share
The service included the first UK performance of the "Missa Chicagoensis" by Canadian composer Stephanie Martin. In addition to the choir singing, you have the bonus of a fine sermon by our own Dean Matthew Woodward.
Again, the choir would like to express our deep gratitude for everyone's support in this project. The choir was proud to represent both Trinity Cathedral, and the Diocese of Northern California!

Learn about the Energy Efficiency Assessments–Invitation to Commission on the Environment Meeting August 10, 2023 at 1 pm
| |
At the 2022 diocesan convention, the delegates voted in favor of a resolution for the congregations in the diocese to participate in assessing their carbon footprint and energy efficiency, and then, develop a plan to be carbon neutral by 2030. These assessments and the plans are to be completed by the end of 2024.
The diocese and the Commission on the Environment contracted with Energy for Purpose to perform the energy efficiency assessments. Funding has been provided by the diocesan Board of Trustees and from The Episcopal Church Creation Care Grant program. Several churches have also self-funded. At this time, nine churches have been assessed and have received their reports. In August, twelve more churches will be assessed.
YOU ARE INVITED to the next meeting of the Commission on the Environment where we will discuss the recent assessments and plans for the group of congregations who will be assessed in August.
