Local Businesses Hold Heat Relief Drives

EPS Group, a land and infrastructure consulting firm based in Mesa, recently completed their ThirstAid campaign drive. This is the second year in a row that EPS has supported HSC to help people survive the summer heat.

Their fundraising included monetary and bottled water donations, as well as an employer match. Thank you EPS Group!

Marisol Federal Credit Union placed this banner with a QR code in their lobby and another one outside their office. They also emailed their members several times during the month of July, resulting in monetary donations as well as lots of cases of water for the 30-day campaign. Thank you Marisol FCU!

Hutzler Law

Longtime supporters from Hutzler Law recently organized a "bar hop" to raise funds and awareness for heat relief. Jason Hutzler said, “There’s a lot of homeless people in Maricopa County that don’t get a lot of water or services. HSC provides both of those and this is an opportunity to help the community out.” A huge shout out to Jason, Omer Gurion and Christina Laguna for their support!

Collectively, these three organizations have raised nearly $30,000 and two pallets of bottled water to date. This directly helps HSC and our partners to meet the needs of the 900 sheltered people and over 700 unsheltered individuals we serve every day. HSC is very grateful for their contributing to this life-saving program!

Homeless ID Project’s Partnership with AZ Motor Vehicle Division Transforms Process for Obtaining I.D.’s

Until last week, people who came to the Homeless ID Project (HIDP) office in the Brian Garcia Welcome Center would receive a voucher to cover the cost of getting an ID from the state, and then they would have to take a 45-minute bus ride to the closest Motor Vehicle Division office. Now, a full-time customer service representative from the Motor Vehicle Division is stationed within HIDP’s office on the Campus. 

"If you're on the street, you either don't have or will likely lose your identification document and therefore you get stuck," said Rick Mitchell, Executive Director of Homeless ID Project. People without stable housing may have their belongings stolen or could misplace them during a move…having an ID is often important for finding housing — or avoiding homelessness altogether, he said.

In the first week of the partnership, HIDP issued around 152 IDs and is on track to provide 17,000 identifications in 2023. HIDP currently has nine venues in Arizona.

“I can’t imagine anybody being in a more difficult or vulnerable spot than being homeless and not being able to prove who they are,” Mitchell said.



HSC is grateful for our long-time partnership with HIDP. Having MVD on the Campus further strengthens our collaborative approach to ending homelessness for people every day.
