"In the past year I have used both MyMedia (now Kaltura) and Examity for multiple online classes. One of the courses is a movement analysis class where students learn muscle origin/insertion, types of contractions, and when muscles are contracting during certain movements. This type of class is best delivered in a hands-on classroom environment; however, with MyMedia, incorporating video and screen capture has made this class well suited for the online environment too. I feel that students are understanding the information a little better by using this online tool. For course assessment, I used Examity as the proctoring service. The application was very intuitive for both me and the students, plus our Examity customer service representatives were very helpful."

LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
RFP UPDATE
In 2018, APSU’s Desire2Learn (D2L) Brightspace contract will be up for renewal. Additionally, D2L will be implementing its new Daylight user interface. For this reason, we will be taking the opportunity to evaluate our current learning management system (LMS) as well as alternative platforms in the upcoming 2017-2018 academic year. This does not necessarily mean the university will be moving away from D2L. As our current contract is approaching renewal, this evaluation is a standard process to ensure that the LMS is continuing to meet APSU’s current and future institutional needs. This evaluation process is expected to take approximately six months from September 2017 through February 2018. In addition, a request for proposals (RFPs) will be advertised in the Fall 2017 semester for learning management system platforms.

Great news! Austin Peay State University has been approved to renew its membership in NC SARA. Why is this significant? Membership in SARA enables Austin Peay State University to offer distance education courses and programs to students who reside in other member states without having to seek authorization and fees to each state. By the end of the year, all 50 states will be members of NC SARA. Membership in SARA has drastically streamlined processes and reduced the costs associated with offering distance education programs. For more information about state authorizations, visit
