Earlier this week, the GAC Board of Directors approved the recommendation to endorse the County of Summit Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health (ADM) Board levy and began the plan to work with the campaign committee to promote and advocate for its passage.
This November, voters in Summit County will be asked to vote on this local issue, a proposed renewal and increase of an existing property tax. The proposed levy would increase from 2.95 mills to 3.45 mills, generating more than $46.5 million to fund mental health and addiction recovery services for children, adults, and families. This marks the first increase to the ADM Board levy in over 15 years, reflecting growing community needs and the rising costs of care. If approved by voters, this funding would support treatment for uninsured and underinsured residents, expand prevention and education efforts, and strengthen responses to urgent community needs such as the opioid crisis and suicide prevention. It would also help maintain and improve ADM Board facilities and support approximately 2,100 staff members across the county.
The Greater Akron Chamber urges members to vote YES on November 4 to ensure continued access to essential behavioral health services.
