WHAT'S NEW IN AUGUST

CEO MESSAGE

The California Legislature recessed on July 18 for summer break and will return on August 18 to round out their business for this first year in the legislative cycle. At this time, lawmakers are back in their districts, which, as Sarah Bridge reminds us, is a good time for you to meet with your state representative or invite them to tour your district.

Which is exactly what happened this week at Southern Humboldt Community Healthcare District (SoHum). Newly elected Assemblymember, Chris Rogers, visited SoHum, meeting at the site of the future hospital, as well as touring the current facility. ACHD joined SoHum CEO, Matt Rees, and members of the SoHum Board to hear from Matt and staff about how this district meets the needs of patients in this extremely rural region of California. Each tour that I am a part of impresses upon me the truly critical importance of our rural districts. Without these districts, patients, for hundreds of miles, would not have access to critical health care services. The entire ACHD team is humbled by the services each district provides in their communities.

Now back home in Sacramento, we are focused on the final weeks of preparation before ACHD's 73rd Annual MeetingEarly bird discount ends on August 15, and our discounted room block rate ends on August 22. Be sure to register and book your room before these dates. Our records show a good number of attendees have not yet booked their room, so be sure to book before the rate expires. Please reach out to us if you need any assistance.

ACHD has secured a new Bronze Sponsor, Veregy. Please see their message below to learn more about how they are working with clients in California, including healthcare districts, to save on energy costs.

We look forward to seeing you in San Diego in September!

With gratitude,

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

The legislature is currently enjoying summer recess. Summer recess marks a break from the legislative process for legislators to return to their districts and visit with constituents. The legislature will return for the final stretch of session on August 18, 2025. Bills still moving through the process will now make a mad dash through fiscal committees and final floor votes.

While the budget remains uncertain, rumors continue to swirl, though we no longer anticipate a special budget session. The Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Accountability and Oversight will be holding an information hearing on H.R. 1 impact at 9 am on August 20, 2025. The materials are not yet available, but ACHD will be monitoring and providing public comment, as necessary.

As a reminder, please use these next weeks to meet with your elected officials, it is critically important they hear from you.

ACHD will provide updates to members when the legislature returns and more substantive actions are being taken.
