Our first Summer Enrichment Academy
This summer kicked off Fountain Valley Schools Foundation's first Summer Enrichment Academy (SEA). Thanks to the donors, event sponsors and participants the seed money and start-up costs were made available and the summer program was realized and our district's award-winning teachers were able to bring exciting classes to local students.
Beginning July 5, 2016, two two-week enrichment sessions were offered with classes including Jumpstart K-2, Creative Writing, Robotics, STEAM/Coding, iMovie Making, Ceramics, Readers Theater (Drama), and Technical Writing. Over 115 students participated in fee-based classes held at Plavan Elementary School and
feedback was tremendous.
Parents and students alike appreciated the creative approach to new areas of learning. The campus was filled with smiling faces, thrilling science experiments, and kids doing what kids do best-having fun!
The Foundation's vision for the Summer Enrichment Academy (FVSEA) is to provide a positive and safe learning environment where students can focus on STEAM-related topics of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Research shows that school districts that offer quality summer enrichment programs have documented gains in learning and growth in social skills-which means a bright future is ahead for our students and community!
