Principle of Practice: Supporting Young Children After Crisis Events
Early childhood educators play a critical role and are likely to provide the majority of support for many young children impacted by a crisis event.
During the course of young children's development, they are exposed to stressful events of various degrees. Recognizing how children are affected after such events can be challenging because along with not always demonstrating observable reactions, young children are also still learning how to express their feelings.
Early childhood educators play a critical role in helping children cope because they are likely to provide the majority of support following a crisis event. To learn more about how young children respond to crisis events and gain tools to help them, read NAEYC's article "Supporting Young Children after Crisis Events" from the latest issue of Young Children.

Child Care is Essential: Recent DC Council Budget Wins
Thank you to everyone who spoke out to prevent devastating cuts to child care programs, and all programs that are lifelines to families in the District. Over 1,000 people contacted the Council to voice their opposition to the proposed cuts. Because of your support the following wins were achieved:
-
FY20: $5 million in emergency child care grants
-
FY21: $1.4 million in child care grants via OSSE + No cuts to subsidy program (reversed a $5M cut) + No cuts to other B-3 programs.
DCAEYC and our partners in the Under 3 DC coalition would also like to thank DC Councilmembers for making the above wins possible. Please help us show our appreciation by sending thank you notes to DC Councilmembers so they don't forget that child care is essential. Check out Under 3 DC's "Budget Thank Yous" spreadsheet for specific thank yous to each Councilmember.

Unifying Framework for the Early Education Profession
The Unifying Framework for the Early Education Profession sets a vision and provides a road map to a future early childhood education profession that is unified, equitable, diverse, well-prepared, and well-compensated. This Framework, released together on March 9 by all of the 15 organizations who made up the Power to the Profession National Task Force, incorporates the expertise, recommendations, and reflections of more than 11,000 early childhood educators across states and settings.
DCAEYC's commitment to seeing the vision articulated in the Unifying Framework become reality is stronger than ever and your involvement is crucial to moving the work forward. Join us and other early educators in DC on Wednesday, August 26th at 7 pm for a virtual discussion on Power to the Profession’s Unifying Framework for the Early Education Profession,
