Dear Beloved Community,
I have to admit, I didn't realize I would feel this sad about the death of a celebrity. But Dolly Parton was more than that. She was someone whose voice, laughter, song and smile wrapped us all in a warmth that felt genuine and real. People on opposite sides of all kinds of issues found themselves drawn to Dolly.
What a gift to the world—her music, humor, generosity, and ability remind us to be exactly who God created us to be.
This Sunday, we continue The Circle of Practice with Surrender, looking at Exodus 3:1–15 and Matthew 16:21–28. Moses is standing on holy ground, and Jesus is asking his disciples to let go of their expectations and plans and follow him. Sometimes surrender is simply saying, “Here I am, God. I’m not sure where we are headed, but I'm listening.”
And this weekend, I hope you’ll also join us at Lexington Pride. First Reformed UCC is proud to be a sponsor. I think this is one of the ways we practice what we preach—making room, showing up, and reminding our community that there is a place for everyone in God’s circle.
Come worship. Come celebrate. Come be part of the circle.
See you Sunday!
Grace and peace,
Elizabeth

Sunday Adult Bible Study
(Meet in Parlor Sundays - 9:30am)
Tex Mix - Earthy Mysticism
featuring Tex Sample
| | |
During our August Sundays (9, 16, 23, and 30), we will be introduced to the art of storytelling and to “stories of earthy mysticism,” as told by Tex Sample in a DVD‑based program. Each session will include a discussion guide that helps us go more deeply into these stories. Tex will begin by offering guidelines—his cardinal principles—for storytelling. We will then listen to and respond to two or three stories each week. Who knows… someday we might be asked, “What’s your story?”
