Every time I attend a meeting of the Mississippi Development Authority and we speak of economic development, the topic of community development comes up, too! Companies look at Quality of Life factors when they locate in a community and "education" is at the top of their list. Your Chamber is being proactive by initiating the Leader-In-Me in the Vicksburg-Warren School District. Individuals, companies, and foundations have donated to this community partnership.
We want to thank the Vicksburg Convention Center for donating proceeds from the fabulous night at Ritz on the River to the Leader-In-Me. We also want to thank Ameristar Casino for hosting a fun reception for the generous sponsors, teachers, and administrators from the following Leader-In-Me schools: Bowmar, Bovina, Dana Road, Redwood, Beechwood, Sherman Avenue, South Park, Warrenton and the Academy of Innovation. This was an exciting way to kick off a new school year!
I invite all Chamber members to visit our local schools this year and learn for yourself why Vicksburg is recognized on the local, state and national levels. It's our responsibility to insure quality education in our communities, to insure economic and community development, and to insure a better quality of life for all!
