A Message from the Mayor

August Update

August is always a special time in Greater Sudbury, and this year is no exception.

We’re proud to kick off the month by welcoming athletes, coaches and visitors from across the province for the Ontario 55+ Summer Games. This exciting event is a celebration of active living, community spirit, and the incredible contributions of older adults. I encourage everyone to come out, cheer on the athletes and take part in the festivities. Learn more about the Games and how to get involved here: https://55summergames.greatersudbury.ca/

August is also packed with amazing festivals, concerts and cultural celebrations taking place across our city. There’s no shortage of ways to connect with your community and soak in the energy of summer. Animal of the Month

Roger is Ready for Love – Again!

Meet Roger, a three-year-old Boxer mix with a goofy personality and a heart full of love. He’s friendly, affectionate and always up for playtime or some lounging. If you're looking for a dog who loves adventure and cuddles, Roger might be your perfect match.

Roger was adopted from us in June, but the home turned out not to be the right fit. He’s back in our care and ready to try again. Roger gets along with other dogs, has lived with cats and has experience around children. To ensure a great match, we ask that all members of the household come to meet him.

Roger also had entropion surgery while in our care, and we’re happy to report that his eyes have healed beautifully — he’s feeling great and more comfortable than ever!

If you’re interested in meeting Roger, please call the shelter at 705-694-7387 or apply online to schedule an appointment:

Together, they are working to deliver high-quality health care by building direct referral pathways and meeting patient needs at the source.

Lifeguards No Longer on Duty at Municipal Beaches

Beginning August 17

Lifeguard supervision ends at seven municipal beaches on Sunday, August 17. After this date, beach use is at your own risk.

The City of Greater Sudbury operates seven public beaches at:

  • Bell Park Main Beach on Ramsey Lake in Sudbury
  • Capreol Public Beach on Marshy Lake in Capreol
  • Kalmo Beach on Whitson Lake in Val Caron
  • Centennial Park Beach at 400 Graham Road, Whitefish
  • Moonlight Beach on Ramsey Lake in Sudbury
  • Nepahwin Beach on Nepahwin Lake in Sudbury
  • Whitewater Lake Park on Whitewater Lake in Azilda

Unsupervised beaches are equipped with a reaching pole, ring buoy and signage.

Children must be supervised and within arm's reach of an adult caregiver at all times. Older children are reminded to swim with a buddy for greater safety.

Washrooms at these beaches will remain open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, until Labour Day Weekend.

For more information on municipal beaches, visit  www.greatersudbury.ca/beaches.

Be Waste and Wildlife Wise

Using the right bins helps keep wildlife away from your property and neighbourhood.

Green Carts are a better option for food waste, including meat, bones and grease, than garbage. They have hard shells, locking lids and are collected weekly.

The City offers Green Carts at no cost for roadside organic waste collection.
