Welcome to Our New Parish Staff Member, Bruce McKenna

Saint Brigid of Kildare is excited to welcome Bruce McKenna to oversee our parish safety and security. In this role, Bruce will draw on his experience as a trained police officer and school resource officer to assist the parish, school and religious education program in implementing safety protocols and trainings. His position will focus on creating policies that keep our parish campus safe, while also providing education and awareness of the latest key issues that impact the safety and well-being of our parish families.

Bruce and his family have been parishioners of St. Brigid of Kildare since 1995. He has previously served our parish as a eucharistic minister, DARE officer, speaker for parent workshops, and has implemented safety training for our school and parish staff.  Bruce holds a bachelor of arts in criminal justice, and has completed FBI Active Shooter training and ALICE training, as well as instructor training on these topics.

Bruce and his wife Kris are parishioners of St. Brigid and have a son who graduated from St. Brigid of Kildare School. We are excited to welcome Bruce as a full-time member of our parish and school staff. Bruce can be reached at  [email protected] .

Older Adults Program
Pete & Susan Corcoran Leading Program

The Older Adults Program through Syntero helps parishioners who need services and don't know where to go. Volunteers can help older adults complete medical forms, advocate to obtain social service benefits, downsize or declutter their homes, find housing based on needs, and can accompany them to help ask questions at appointments with a healthcare professional. The program is looking for volunteers to help serve these older adults, as well as older adults in need of assistance. The volunteer time commitment is set by the volunteer, and the amount and types of jobs they'd like to help with are chosen by the volunteer. This program is made possible by a partnership with Syntero.

Additionally, this program offers support to caregivers of older adults. The services are provided by Syntero and are available at no charge. They are designed to give you a helping hand and to assist you in becoming a more effective caregiver, including the need for your own self-care and stress management.

If you would like to sign up to volunteer or learn more, contact Pete & Susan Corcoran 614-832-2762 [email protected]

St. Brigid Parish and Prison Ministry
"I was in prison and you came to visit me" Matthew Ch25: vs. 36

You've probably seen notices in the parish bulletin from time to time asking for "Cookies for Kairos." "Kairos" is a Greek word meaning: "In God's Time."

A Kairos weekend is an opportunity for incarcerated men and women to reconsider the choices they've made in life. The mission of the Kairos Ministry is to share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus, to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men, women and youth, and their families, to become loving and productive citizens of their communities.

Read more about the Kairos Prison Ministry and St. Brigid's involvement here.

SAVE THE DATE

Please join us on Wednesday, October 2nd at 1:30 p.m. at Hendricks Hall, to hear from Frank, who was released from prison not too long ago, and hear his story: "Life Inside and Outside Prison Walls".

Organized by the 55 Plus Club.

Our RCIA Story: The Smith Family

From Julie Smith:
After attending Dublin City Schools for 8 years, my daughter Caroline decided to attend Bishop Watterson High School in 2018. Caroline immediately felt that Watterson was home.  Andrea Pore, her theology teacher, taught the non-feeder school students.  She created an environment where the non-Catholic school kids could ask lots of questions and feel comfortable learning about Catholicism.  In December of that same year, Caroline came to us and asked to join the Catholic Church.  I reached out to Mrs. Pore for guidance on how to best make this happen.  She was thrilled to hear of Caroline's independent decision to continue in her faith journey.  I made the decision to join Caroline.  I was not raised in a church and wanted to be sure I could help Caroline answer questions and support her as best I could.

We met with Deacon Paul Zemanek in January and he invited us to join the current RCIA class.  We were both pleasantly surprised that we didn't have to wait to get started.  Deacon Paul met with us privately to get us up to speed on what our fellow Cathecumans had already studied.  We are grateful to him and the entire class for making us feel welcome.

I am filled with pride at my daughter's decision to join Saint Brigid.  What a wonderful experience to share with a teenager.

Now, our son Nicholas will be part of Religious Education at Saint Brigid and will be part of the confirmation class of 2020.

We look forward to being active parish members.
