"Because we can only come out of this situation together”
|
During this time that we are all searching for answers, Pope Francis emphasizes the importance of prayer, recalling how the Apostles turn to Jesus to save them during the storm (Mark 4:35-41). "Prayer helps us understand our vulnerability,” he says. “It is the cry of those who are sinking, who feel they are in danger and alone. And in a difficult, desperate situation, it is important to know that the Lord is there to cling to." The current crisis helps to remind us “once and for all, that humanity is a single community,” he says. It will teach us that “universal kinship” is important and critical. “It will no longer be ‘them’. It will be ‘us’. Because we can only come out of this situation together.”
As we enter the sixth month of this global pandemic, we need to remember that our neighbor’s needs will continue to grow. We need to look out and take care of each other. This is more challenging in a time when we can’t meet as a community, but we are a parish family. Please let us know if you or anyone you are aware of needs help. The parish has resources to provide aid. Many of you are feeling disconnected -- please continue to look out for one another and we will all get through this together. Please continue to pray. Please contact us at the parish office 614-761-3734 or via staff emails if you are ever at any time in need.

In Memory of Kerry the Wolfhound
|
Not often does one life touch so many in a short time. This was Kerry -- rescued from a bad situation when she was a few years old, she became Msgr. Hendricks’ constant companion and parish mascot. Any day you could find Kerry in her place on the couch in the entryway of the parish office or at Msgr. Hendricks’ feet. If not in the office she was doing her official duty as mascot, meeting her many fans at the school, parish or in the Dublin community. Many a person entered the office and began to smile when they looked down at Kerry with her sweet steady presence. Delivery people came to the office with treats and pets for their favorite office “greeter.”
Kerry passed peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2020. She received prayers and a final blessing. Msgr. Hendricks wanted to express his thanks to everyone who has shown Kerry so much love over the years. He said he was “filled with gratitude for Kerry’s presence at St. Brigid and the rectory over the last 10 plus years.” Kerry was 12 years old which is a very long life for a Wolfhound. She will be missed. Saint Francis, pray for her.

Virtual Ministry Weekend Coming Soon
|
As we are unable to open our Hall to the dozens of ministries that we usually welcome back in the fall, we would still like to virtually showcase all the ministries and committees available at St. Brigid of Kildare Parish.
Beginning September 11 through the following three weeks, we will showcase ministries, committees and volunteer opportunities available at St. Brigid of Kildare. We will send a weekly email on Fridays of those weeks highlighting a few of our ministries and the opportunities available to get involved and deepen your faith at St. Brigid of Kildare Parish. We will also highlight these ministries on our Facebook page, website, YouTube channel and during Mass.
Why Ministry Weekend?
We hope you all find a group, committee or activity that meets your talents or interests and allows you to feel connected within our large parish. This is the key to building relationships and strengthening faith. Ministry Weekend provides an opportunity for parishioners to see that St. Brigid of Kildare is an active parish and that there is room within every one of our ministries for parishioner involvement.
COVID-19 & Committee Meetings Update
As much as we would love all of our groups to be able to come together in person, we are currently not able to offer indoor or outdoor meeting space on St. Brigid campus. Exceptions are clergy-led meetings for the purpose of sacramental preparation, or specific staff-led meetings. Several factors have influenced this decision, including the limited spaces we will have available on campus.
On Monday, August 24, 2020 Hendricks Hall was converted to classroom space for St. Brigid Elementary School. It is necessary for the school to expand to Hendricks Hall and other areas of campus to ensure proper social distancing for on-site learning. Therefore, the hall will not be available for any day or evening activities or meetings while it has been converted to academic space. This includes weekend (Friday-Saturday-Sunday) meetings, gatherings and activities as well.
Instead, we encourage everyone to learn about and join ministries you are interested in, plan for a return and pray for the good health and safety of all. Many of our groups have been successfully meeting virtually for the past few months, so please sign up for any ministries you may be interested in.

Congrats to Our RCIA Candidates & Catechumens

However, the Catechumens (individuals that receive all 3 Sacraments of Initiation -- Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist) and Candidates (individuals already baptized in another Christian denomination, received Confirmation and Holy Eucharist) were brought into the church on the evening of July 9th. It was a very special evening for these individuals, their families and friends, and their Companions on their journey to the Catholic faith. It is with great honor and privilege to welcome each and every one of them to our St. Brigid Community. Congratulations and may God Bless you always!
The individuals are:
Catechumens: Jay Butcher, Neal Butcher, and Oksana Peters
Candidates: Justin Bute, Greg Cunningham, Scott King, Kate Mangia, April Bott Moore, Alex Nguyen, Joe Roszman, Sarah Tope, Darren Train, Tony Wachalec, and Nikki Williams.

As with all of our ministries at St. Brigid, the onset of COVID-19 has impacted our music ministry program a great deal. Current research shows that singing in large groups indoors poses a high level of risk, calling singing a “super spreader” event. Singing produces larger amounts of aerosol particles than regular speech, and these particles are also tinier in size and they hang in the air for several minutes. Therefore, many churches around the country, including St. Brigid, have decided to not have singing during Mass at this time. Even though we are not able to sing in person, we’ve been finding alternative ways to include music in our liturgies. Currently, instrumental piano and organ music is played during Mass. You also may have also noticed our prelude music and virtual choir presentations that have been a part of our online liturgies each week. We are very grateful to the members of the various choirs who have continued to provide their ministry in this way! If you have missed any of the virtual choir performances, you can visit the St. Brigid Facebook page and YouTube channel for these performances. Please keep all of our 120+ members of music ministry in your prayers as we all look forward to the day when we can safely sing together again!

Catholic Foundation Grant Received
|
St. Brigid of Kildare would like to thank The Catholic Foundation for the $5,000 response grant our parish received to help fund our live stream program that we have utilized to provide our parishioners the Mass and other religious programs since the March “Stay at Home” order. We have averaged over 5,025 views a week since we began this ministry. We will continue to provide these programs to reach all our parishioners and provide for their spiritual needs while protecting their health for the foreseeable future.

Middle School Youth Group (EPIC – Endless Possibilities In Christ)
|
Saint Brigid of Kildare’s Middle School Youth Group is designed for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from St. Brigid School, Grizzell, Karrer, Sells, and other local schools. Middle School Youth Ministry meets for worship, fellowship, and service throughout the academic year.
With historically high attendance in these EPIC events, St. Brigid is evaluating how we can support the organizations we partner with through EPIC while caring for the health and well-being of our parish community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As health guidelines evolve for large group gatherings through the COVID-19 pandemic, Andrea Komenda and Laura Ginikos are working together to bring the Cross Catholic Outreach Box of Joy (November) and the Family Mentor Foundation Buddy Box Food Drive (February) service opportunities into the hearts and homes of our St. Brigid middle school population.
We are asking parents of all 6th-8th graders who wish to be involved with EPIC, to complete the shortened EPIC registration form at the link below for the 2020-21 academic year (student name, student grade, student school, parent, and parent email). Using this information, Andrea Komenda and Laura Ginikos will keep your family informed of EPIC middle school youth ministry opportunities.

High School Youth Ministry
|
High School Youth Ministry is open to all 9th-12th grade students (2020-2021).
The goal of our ministry is to lead high schoolers and their parents to encounter Christ and to equip them to live as life-long disciples.
To do this, we offer opportunities that invite high school youth to take a step in owning their Catholic faith through participation in large group ministry events focused on fellowship and service, as well as through small group ministry. In addition to youth-specific gatherings, we strive to plug high school youth and their parents into the fullness of the parish community.
This year, we have the opportunity to think more creatively about how we live this mission as we prioritize spiritual health, physical health, and social & emotional health in a new way.
