Welcome to our LBPD Newsletter!

Our officers and detectives have been doing an incredible job seizing firearms from prohibited possessors this year. Since the creation of our Coordinated Response Team, officers and detectives have seized an average of 20 firearms each week, all in an effort to keep our Long Beach community safe. However, you might still want to learn more about what a prohibited possessor is...
National Night Out
Our LBPD team had a great time out in the community for National Night Out earlier this month! We enjoyed meeting so many of our neighbors and talking about community partnerships to keep Long Beach safe!
North Division Neighborhood Walks
This week marks the end of the North Division Neighborhood Walks program. Since June 14, North Division officers have been out walking in their patrol beats to talk with residents and business owners about issues affecting the community. Great work by our North Division officers!
We are excited to welcome all Long Beach students back to school this week! As students start walking, bike riding, skateboarding, and driving with their families to school, we want to share a few safety reminders:
  • Always look both ways before crossing the street.
  • Drive slow! Be alert for children and drive below the speed limit.
  • If you are riding a bike, skateboard, or scooter, always wear your helmet.
  • Remind your children to not talk to strangers.
  • Be aware of your surroundings!
North Division Back-to-School Kickoff
Early this week, North Division officers visited McKinley Elementary School to welcome students back to school. Officers loved greeting all the students and passing out pencils to kick off the new schoolyear.
Long Beach City College
Our LBCC police officers are looking forward to seeing students back on campus this fall! LBCC officers are also excited to start the new school year – in their new uniforms!
West Division Community Event
Over the weekend, West Division officers stopped by a Back-to-School community event at MLK Park to say hi to all the kids.
PRA Celebrates One Year Anniversary
Earlier this month, we celebrated the one year anniversary of the creation of our Public Records Compliance Division. In just the first year, this team received 2,337 public records requests! Congratulations to the PRA team and thank you for all you do for our Department!
LBPD Boxing Team
Chief Luna joined our LBPD Boxing Team and West Division officers in attending a backpack giveaway hosted by the Local Hearts Foundation. Our Boxing Team met the young boxers they’ll be mentoring, and our officers had an amazing time connecting with the community.
On the Patrol Beat
Our K-9 Detail recently had K-9 water acclamation training— our team has been preparing to serve you on & off our waterfronts!

Smiles all around when an officer was out during a recent Saturday quad beach patrol, talking to kids enjoying the nice weather and passing out coupons for free slurpees.
