Trails, Turtles, and Torches: Summer 2026 with the Conservation Steward Interns

Big smiles and safety first for this crew!

This summer, Heritage Conservancy's Conservation Steward Interns spent their days banding kestrels, surveying turtles, torching invasive barberry, and building new trails. They also planted native trees, ran botany surveys, and got certified on a chainsaw. Our four interns share what stood out most from a season spent learning hands-on conservation work in the field — the kind of skills you can't pick up in the classroom.

Bee Blitz 2026: Documenting Pollinator Diversity at Lindsay Farm Preserve

Volunteers documenting bee sightings at Lindsay Farm's pollinator meadow

Six volunteers spent a morning combing through the meadow at Lindsay Farm Preserve, cameras and iNaturalist apps in hand, for a Bee Blitz led by Conservation Biologist Sebastian Harris. The goal was to document as many bee species as possible in the preserve's newly established pollinator habitat. Volunteers moved quickly through the grasses, snapping photos of everything from bumble bees to sweat bees along the way.

See what data they recorded buzzing around Lindsay Farm.

Milkweed: The Benefits Beyond Monarchs

Many people know milkweed is essential for monarch butterflies, but that's only part of the story. Conservation Biologist Sebastian Harris breaks down the other ways milkweeds support local ecosystems, from feeding a wide range of pollinators to providing nesting material for birds and even fighting off invasive species. He also shares a list of milkweed species worth adding to your own garden.

'No Longer Bound' Campers Explore the Outdoors with Heritage Conservancy Staff

This summer's Tuesday campers, all smiles and ready for nature and outdoor fun!

This summer, Heritage Conservancy partnered with No Longer Bound's summer camp for five weeks of hands-on environmental education, with a new themed adventure every Tuesday. Campers explored pollinators, waded into stream life, went on a scavenger hunt through Croydon Woods Preserve, and learned about the birds and mammals of Bucks County along the way.

See what five weeks of outdoor discovery looked like for this year's campers.

The Lasting Legacy of Marv Woodall

Marv was a constant presence in the office, often spending several days each week meeting with staff, encouraging their great work.

Heritage Conservancy is remembering Marv Woodall, Chairman Emeritus, who recently passed away after twenty-five years of service to our organization, including three as Chairman. Marv led Heritage Conservancy through one of its most pivotal periods and left a mark that's still felt today.

Read the full tribute, including quotes from our staff and board, to a man who shaped Heritage Conservancy's future and touched everyone who worked alongside him.

Children of God Preschool students visit Croydon Woods Nature Preserve

"What the children love most about Heritage Conservancy's education programs is the sense of exploration and discovery. They are fully immersed in the learning experience—it engages all of their senses. They smell, see, hear, and touch everything around them. They see spiders, feel leaves falling in their hair, hear the crunch beneath their feet, and watch the sunlight filter through the trees. They are not just observing—they are part of the environment. It becomes a fully interactive outdoor classroom."
