20 Teens Saved at Youth Week in Palacios, TX
On July 14th, our family traveled to Texas. After a couple of days with family in Dallas and Waco, we went on to Palacios, Texas to the Texas Baptist Encampment (TBE). When Mike first received an invitation to preach the SBTC Hispanic Ministries Youth Camp at TBE on July 17-21, we knew it would be a special week. First, because Mike had already worked with this group several years ago and so appreciated their heart for the Lord and desire to see students fully surrendered to Christ. Second, because Mike grew up (ages 5-12) at this very same camp in Palacios where his father was camp manager until his death in a car accident in 1983. We were thrilled to be able to take our whole family to Palacios to experience the week with SBTC Hispanic Ministries and for our children to get to know this special camp that was such an integral part of Mike's own childhood.
We were not disappointed! We had a wonderful week of ministry, building new relationships, and reconnecting with old friends. There were students saved and making decisions of renewal and commitment every night of camp, with a total of 20 students saved, 20 rededications to Christ and dozens, during the invitation times, praying at the altar over the week!
Following our week of camp, we traveled to South Louisiana for some long overdue visits with relatives on both the Thibodeaux and Keller sides of our family and had the opportunity to sing at Community Baptist Church in Lafayette. The kids were introduced to some of their Cajun roots, with a visit to the bayou (complete with alligators!), some great Cajun food, and a full day of historical culture at Vermilionville in Lafayette. We had more days with family on our return trip to Dallas and then returned to Oregon on July 29th.
Mike hit the ground running in preparation to resume all five Men of Simplicity groups and launch the new MOS Skype Connect project with two churches in Spokane, WA. These churches will participate via Skype with the Monday night Gresham MOS. This year we are expecting to disciple and equip a hundred men in Simple Evangelism and Apologetics. These men will be further equipped to lead their families to join God in the Great Commission task! We need your prayers. If you are not a 5 Minute Prayer Partner, please visit our website and become one today. Thank you - Mike and Debbie Thibodeaux
