Trash to Treasure! Calling for Artists and Buoy Decorators
A colorful collection of donated buoys at last year's Homer Halibut Festival.
We're seeking local artists to decorate a one-of-a-kind buoy or donate an art piece for our upcoming Ocean Boogie in Homer on December 16, 2017 at Alice's Champagne Palace

Help us celebrate the unique marine traditions of coastal Alaska, raise funds to support our organization, and showcase your talent. We have buoys of all shapes and sizes waiting to be made into unique coastal art pieces. Email us at fish@akmarine.org with your interest!

Now Hiring for Two Positions: Community Organizer and Communications and Development Manager
Community engagement is an important (and fun) responsibility for both of our available positions.
AMCC is bidding farewell to two staff members and seeking two talented individuals to complement our current team: a Fishing Community Organizer and a Communications and Development Manager .

This summer, Homer Fisheries Organizer Hannah Heimbuch departed our team to focus more on fishing and creative projects. Hannah plans to stay engaged in the Alaska Young Fishermen's Network as a volunteer steering committee member.

In September, Seward-based Jen Leahy will also move on from AMCC. We are thankful for the contributions of Hannah and Jen during their time with us and wish them the best in the future.

The deadline to apply for both positions is Monday, September 18. Apply early as the positions are open until filled.

Ocean Acidification Kiosk Moves to Cordova
Our interactive kiosk is now live in Cordova.

The interactive kiosk offers short videos featuring the perspectives of research scientists, fishermen, and seafood industry leaders. It also contains easy-to-follow science for viewers of all ages. The kiosk is a tool for Alaskans to learn about ocean acidification, its effects on our communities, and how to engage further.

Thank you to our friends at the Prince William Sound Science Center and Cordova Center for their hospitality in hosting the kiosk at its new home through the fall.

AMCC's Summer Interns Raise the Bar
Sean Treacy is leaving big shoes to fill for next year's local seafood intern.
We were fortunate to host two phenomenal interns this summer: Isa Navarro and Sean Treacy.

Isa came to AMCC through the Alaska Conservation Foundation's summer internship program and helped conduct ocean acidification outreach in Seward, Homer, and Naknek.

As our seafood sales intern--made possible by support from Sitka Salmon Shares--Sean played an instrumental role in our community supported fishery's sockeye salmon offering this summer.  Both Sean and Isa made valuable contributions to our team and will be missed!
