An older man smiles while holding a grocery bag filled with fresh food speaking to a woman whose back is to the camera.

On July 14, organizations across the country, including USAging and national Aging Network partners, celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Older Americans Act (OAA) — a vital piece of legislation that helps older adults maintain their health and independence.

It is not too late to celebrate this historic moment and call on Congress to increase funding for OAA programs!

These valuable programs include:

In-Home Services

Nutrition Access

Caregiver Support

Health & Wellness Programs- and more!

Your voice matters—help us ensure these programs continue to serve older adults in our community for generations to come. Contact Congress via the National Council on Aging!

Volunteer Spotlight

A headshot of Marilyn.

The Volunteer Spotlight for August is... Marilyn Collister - a Health & Wellness Workshop Facilitator!

About Marilyn:

"I completed facilitator training for the Diabetes Path and Matter of Balance programs twelve years ago, while working as a care manager for a physicians office.

While facilitating these workshops I was able to experience how much the programs benefited the people who took part in them. I saw how the workshops gave people tools and skills to manage their health conditions in ways that led to improved health outcomes. Participating in the workshops helped them manage their health conditions and made a difference in their daily lives.

I am retired now and live in the Lansing area with my husband and an adorable kitty, named Chloe.

After retiring I wanted to continue to help offer these workshops to members of the community, so I became a volunteer for TCOA. I now have the privilege of being able to continue to facilitate Diabetes Path and Matter of Balance workshops."

Thank you, Marilyn, for helping older adults in the Tri-County area live healthier, happier lives!
