News From the Field:
Bio-Dynamic Farming Training Attended

GSS and CAFEi farmers and team members at the training.

Earlier this month GSS Field Staff and farmers attended a three day bio-dynamic farming seminar held in Cebu. Bio-Dynamic Farming was founded by Rudolf Steiner a scientist and respected philosopher. Bio-Dynamic Farming combines science and a more spiritual aspect to farming. It is often incorporated into organic farming practices around the world.

Benguet Association of Seed Saver farmer and Global Seed Savers Philippines Board Member, Cesar Galvey attended the training and shared these reflections:

"I definitely learned a lot. I learned about the spiritual aspect of farming. The training helped me understand what my parents and grandparents used to believe. Being part of an indigenous community, I remember my father used to tell me when to plant based on the phases of the moon. I now see their wisdom and that we too can incorporate these practices  into our current farming methods."

The training was also a great networking opportunity for GSS. There were over 30 participants from all over the Philippines including representatives from the dynamic organic farming organization, League of Organic Municipalities and Cities (LOAMC). They partner with Mayor's around the country that are committed to supporting organic and sustainable farming practices. We are excited to explore incorporating our seed saving efforts into their work throughout the Philippines.
