LaSalle School August E-Newsletter
On June 24 LaSalle School was proud to graduate 10 young men, who through an unprecedented year, continued to go above and beyond to accomplish their goal of earning their high school diploma's and certifications.

Each graduate invited family and friends to attend the ceremony held on LaSalle's campus, following a celebratory reception. Lawn signs lined the LaSalle campus of the graduates senior pictures with cheers coming from those that passed by. This year's graduating class helped with the planning of the ceremony in order to make it feel as their own. Each graduate choose their personal favorite song to be played as they walked up to receive their diploma and voted, as a class, on the commencement speakers; Ms. Keidy Dublin, LaSalle's Spanish and Social Studies teacher and Mrs. Lori Williams-Clark, Family and Consumer Science teacher.

Each graduate was gifted the book “Oh, the Places You'll Go!” by Dr. Seuss signed by LaSalle staff members wishing them their best on their journeys moving forward.

We are honored to announce our 2021 graduates earned the following:

  • Advanced regents with honors diploma
  • Two earned a Regents diploma
  • Three earned a Regents diploma and Career Development and Occupational Studies Certificate
  • Local diploma
  • Two earned their Skills and Achievement Credential Certificate
  • One student walked in ceremony and will soon complete diploma requirements

This May, LaSalle celebrated Founder’s week, a time to reflect and renew our commitment to the five Lasallian core principles: Faith, Concern for the Poor and Social Justice, Respect for All Persons, Quality Education, and Inclusivity.

The week kicked off with the annual tie dying of the LaSallian t-shirts. Staff and students came together and created bright designs with this year's Founders Week slogan #LaSalleStrong. A phrase we began during Founders Week 2020 as the pandemic was upon us. Since, we have continued to use this slogan to encourage and support one another. Students spent their Tuesday afternoon revitalizing LaSalle's campus by planting flowers, weeding and raking in order to keep our grounds beautiful. On Wednesday, Chalk the Walk provided our students an opportunity to express themselves through chalk designs on our school and dorm buildings. Thursday marked our first annual Spartan Race that encouraged team work and self perseverance. Over 25 students participated, with 15 staff members and members of the Albany Police Department. On this day, the APD brought therapy dog, Maxie who enjoyed the attention of our animal loving students.

The week ended celebrating staff and all they do to care for our youth. Each year, we select a staff to receive our most prestigious award, the Lasallian Educator of the Year. Lasallian Educators are not always teachers, but they do embody and represent the Lasallian spirit in all that they do, regardless of title or role. Lasallians educate others through their words, actions and service as youth development staff, counselors, faculty, food service, nursing, maintenance, support staff, and administrators.

Every year it’s a challenge to identify the one Lasallian who stands out among the rest. This year was no exception, as our entire community has done so much and took every moment to put the needs of our kids first. In recognition of that dedication and sacrifice, Executive Director, Dave Wallace announced that the honor of Lasallian Educator would be bestowed to all staff who served during the 2020-2021 year. Together, despite a world-wide pandemic, our LaSalle School Family has infused the Lasallian Vision into the everyday reality for our youth, their families, and one another.
