Interactive Dashboard for County Cancer Profiles Available Now
What are the most common cancers in your county? How does your county compare to the state? Get the latest data about cancer risks, screening rates, and health outcomes for every county in Wisconsin.
Use this interactive data dashboard to identify potential needs in your community, create evidence-based programming, raise public awareness, and more.
The Interactive Dashboard features the information from the Wisconsin County Cancer Profiles, launched last month, with a specific profile for each of Wisconsin’s 72 counties.
The two-page profiles offer the opportunity to see how your county compares to statewide averages and other counties around the state. They combine data from multiple sources, such as the Wisconsin Cancer Reporting System, the Wisconsin Immunization Registry, and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, and the U.S. Census.
The dozens of data points for each county help outline the state of cancer in that area, offering a view of successes and possible areas for future improvement.

RESOURCE ALERT
New Colorectal Cancer Screening Report Released
A new report on the availability of colonoscopy for colorectal cancer screening in Wisconsin is available.
The report by the Wisconsin Cancer Collaborative provides a detailed breakdown of availability of colonoscopy services in Wisconsin, including several maps. Findings indicate there are not enough facilities to screen eligible Wisconsinites through colonoscopy alone and identify other potential gap areas. Other screening options should be considered such as stool-based, at-home tests for average risk adults to increase timely screening.

We are seeking nominations for people and organizations whose work inspires you and demonstrates the 2023 Wisconsin Cancer Summit theme, The Power of Action.
We would like to honor the people and organizations making significant contributions to cancer control in Wisconsin.
Nominate an individual or organization today. We are taking nominations for the following awards:

Collaboration Award, honoring a group of two or more organizations that have demonstrated effective teamwork in advancing cancer control goals.

Champion Award, honoring an individual who has made a significant contribution to cancer control outcomes – locally, regionally, and/or statewide.
-
Impact Award, honoring an organization or project that has made a significant contribution to cancer control outcomes either locally, regionally, and/or statewide.
- Health Care Hero Award, honoring an individual health care worker OR a system/clinic/practice for their exceptional dedication to serving & supporting patients while advancing the progress of public health.
The nomination deadline is September 15, 2023.

Exact Sciences Request for Proposal: Funding Opportunities for Colorectal Cancer Screening Uptake Strategies Program
Exact Sciences is excited to share the Request for Proposal of the Fall 2023 Funding Opportunities for CRC Screening Uptake Strategies - “FOCUS” Program. The linked RFP outlines all the details necessary to determine eligibility and criteria for applying. Currently funded FOCUS grantees are not eligible to apply but are encouraged to share this opportunity with others who may be interested.
An informational webinar to learn more about the application process will be held on August 9th at noon.

The American Cancer Society and Kohl’s Healthy Families invite those who promote health in southeastern Wisconsin to attend a FREE Cancer Seminar on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 9:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the Milwaukee County Zoo's Zoofari Conference Center. Participants will have the opportunity to learn valuable skills and resources aimed at helping their clients prevent and detect cancer.

The UW Carbone Cancer Center’s 21st Annual Fall Cancer Conference will be Friday, October 20, 2023 at Monona Terrace, Madison.
This year’s conference is focused on “food as medicine.” Cost includes breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch and handouts.
Keynote speakers include:

New HPV Education Virtual Series
The American Cancer Society in partnership with The National HPV Vaccination Roundtable and the Indiana Immunization Coalition are launching a 6-part provider education virtual series.
The on-demand sessions will range in topics and equip providers with the latest information, HPV vaccination guidelines, science, and implementation strategies to increase vaccination rates. CME, CNE and Pharmacy continuing education will be offered for each webinar.

Death Threats and Workplace Violence in Oncology: A Worrisome Epidemic
Data from the federal government show that healthcare workers across all medical specialties are five times as likely to encounter workplace violence than those in any other labor group. In the first part of this article from OBR Oncology, experts and clinicians shared data and stories related to violence in oncology settings. In the second, experts discuss actions can help prevent and limit these dangerous situations.
An additional article The ASCO Post in suggests steps that can decrease workplace violence, including how to respond to threats and how to de-escalate aggressive situations.

New Cervical Cancer Toolkit for Health Care Providers
The Toolkit to Build Provider Capacity is for safety-net setting of care providers, including physicians, nurses, medical assistants, administrative staff, community health workers, patient navigators, care coordinators, and others. Providers can use the toolkit to improve quality of care, train staff, communicate and engage with patients, and evaluate current cervical cancer programs.

COVID-19 Antibody Testing in People with Lymphoma and Infection Risk
People with blood cancers have an increased risk of severe COVID-19 disease, even when vaccinated. A recent study examined rates of breakthrough infections, admission to hospital due to COVID-19 and antibody and cellular responses in people with lymphoma in England between March 11, 2021, and September 9, 2022. People who were hospitalized had lower antibody levels detected. Furthermore, repeat covid vaccines (especially four vaccine doses) appears to increase immune response in patients with lymphoma, highlighting the need to promote uptake among people who are immunocompromised.

STUDY
Alternative Treatment Dosing Schedules Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
This study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology Clinical Practice discusses dosing schedule impacts of trastuzumab treatment on greenhouse gas emissions. This study found that alternative dosing schedules reduce greenhouse gas emissions from 4.6 percent in neoadjuvant (treatment prior to the main treatment) setting up to 14.6 percent in metastatic settings. The reduction presents an opportunity for clinical trials to look at alternative schedules to look at not only efficacy and population health level benefit but also environmental health level benefit.

Pediatric Cancer Incidence Increased Between 2003-2019
The overall incidence rate of pediatric cancer increased 0.5% per year on average during 2003-2019 according to a CDC study published in Journal of the National Cancer Institute. However, the rate increased during 2003-2016 and then decreased during 2016-2019.

Lifetime Psychological Burden of Cancer for Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults
A recent systematic review and meta-analysis published in JAMA Pediatrics, found that children, adolescent, and young adult patients with cancer (CYACs) may experience lasting psychological burden across their lifetime, which is an important aspect of survivorship. Findings suggest that CYACs may experience an increased lifetime burden of depression, anxiety, and psychotic disorders after remission.

National Lung Cancer Screening Day
Please join the National Lung Cancer Roundtable (NLCRT), established by the American Cancer Society, and the American College of Radiology (ACR), and the Radiology Healthy Equity Coalition (RHEC), and the Veterans Health Association, in promoting the Second Annual National Lung Cancer Screening Day on Saturday, November 11, 2023.
Screening centers nationwide are being asked to open their doors on Saturday, November 11 to allow individuals to be screening without needing to take a day off work. National Lung Cancer Screening Day works to rise above the stigma and celebrate individuals who make the decision to get screened for lung cancer regardless of their smoking history or current smoking status.
