Welcome to the FISD e-newsletter where you can quickly learn what's happening in your school district!
A New Year, A New Way.
I cannot wait to start the 2020 school year. Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited to begin a new school year. I can tell you that not much will look like it did at the beginning of school in 2019. And, not all of that is bad.

At the beginning of 2019, the FISD Strategic Plan started to come to life and was leading us into the future. We were on our way to developing innovative strategies that helped us create life long learners, prepared for their futures. Then, COVID-19 accelerated our already ambitious plans.

To meet the needs of our students, conventional methods aren’t going to work anymore. In a matter of months, we have reinvented what education looks like for FISD students. No longer is learning confined to the four walls of a classroom. Students will have the technology they need to connect to one another, their teachers and their learning from anywhere. They will have ownership of their learning.

While making sure our students are healthy both academically and physically, we will also cultivate the social and emotional well-being of each other. We will be cognizant of our diversity as a community and celebrate those differences.

Providing innovative instruction for students, caring for them, showing them how to engage in their world to impact the greater good, even now, when life is challenging...as all of those things come together, we are staying true to our vision to prepare every FISD student for a prosperous life.
Transition to Face to Face Learners Grades 3-5
Elementary campuses will require a staggered return for face-to-face learners to allow the younger students and their parents more time to become familiar with the new health and safety protocols and campus procedures. Students will return based on grade level.

Floresville South and Floresville North Elementary
August 24 Return to Campus: Grades PK, Kinder, 1, 2
August 27 Return to Campus: Grades 3, 4, 5

Students in grades 3-5 should be engaged in learning starting August 24 from home. Your child's teacher will provide expectations for August 24-26.

FISD Connected Website

We are excited to launch the FISD Connected website! The website is a one-stop-shop for your Remote/Virtual Learner. It’s where you can go to get started with your learning from home, watch video tutorials, find support numbers for tech issues and log in to your child's learning space.

How Are Students Learning at FISD?
Graphic Remote vs Face to Face
In June, after surveying parents, 24% wanted their children to learn remotely. After opening the Learning Option Registration in August, FISD currently has 51.9% of its students learning remotely and 48.1% learning face-to-face. The next opportunity to change your child's learning option is at the end of the first nine weeks, October 16.
Find Your Route!
School bus and 3 bus drivers
Once you register your child in Skyward, bus routing and schedule information is available four days following. Transportation is provided for Face-to-Face students. Transportation is not provided for Remote Learners attending an elective course.

iPad and Chromebook Deliveries
As FISD has communicated, there is a worldwide backlog of device orders. However, with the help of TEA, the district expects iPads to arrive in September and Chromebooks to arrive in October. We want to thank parents for their patience as we worked hard to deploy the devices we had in our inventory. We also want to thank parents allowing their children to bring their own devices to school. By the end of October, every child at FISD will have a school-issued device to enhance learning.
Curbside Meals for Remote Learners
Lunch Ladies with meals
Remote Learners can pick up curbside meals at Floresville High School on Mondays and Thursdays between 9:00 am and 10:30 am. Meals will be charged based on eligibility (paid, free, or reduced). Grab and go meals will include breakfast and lunch for instructional days only (no weekends or holidays).

Self-Screener for Students & Visitors
DrOwl logo
All parents are required to submit a screening report for their children prior to entry at any FISD campus. The district is using the DrOwl app to make this process easier for parents and staff. DrOwl is a TEA approved screener that is compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Make self-screening part of your child's morning routine.

Friday Night Lights Will Shine in 2020
We are excited to announce that Friday Night Lights will be back on at Eschenburg Field. However, due capacity limitations set by the State of Texas and UIL, tickets will be limited. Our first priority is to make sure students participating in Friday night activities are able to share those experiences with their families.

FISD Lowers Tax Rate
For the third time in seven years, the FISD Board has voted to reduce the tax rate. The tax rate for 2020 was set at $1.2344 giving taxpayers a $.10 reduction from 2019. During the last seven years, the district has also been able to strengthen the district’s financial position by increasing its fund balance from $2Million to over $9Million, staying true to the FISD Board’s goal of being good stewards of public funds.
