That's a wrap on August, folks! In our southern Wisconsin vegetable garden, August means tomatoes, as you'll see in our links below. And because Noel didn't grow any zucchini last year, he overcompensated this year by planting five zucchini and summer squash varieties. As most of you know, that's too many zucchini. As a result, we've been making a lot of fresh produce contributions to our local food pantry!

August in Wisconsin is also one of the best times of year to spend our time outside with friends. Andy shares some of his favorite outdoor gathering photos from the last month.

Don't forget to enter our monthly giveaway (just reply to this email and request to be entered). As always, feel free to leave us any additional comments when you do!

Here is Judy's easy and tasty recipe that uses cherry tomatoes, basil, and pasta. It can be modified for what you have on hand.

Summers in the Upper Midwest are fantastic. Even though there are hot and humid days, the average summer high temperature is in the low 80s F (upper 20s C) and it’s at least partly sunny most of the time. Mornings and evenings are especially nice for being outside and visiting with friends and family outdoors. The summer outdoor dining scene here is wonderful. People take advantage of it while they can because they know winter is coming.

The first photo is street dining in Downtown Madison, the second is a friend's farmhouse near Mount Horeb, WI, and the bottom two photos are from the University of Wisconsin Memorial Union Terrace, on the shore of Lake Mendota, in Madison, Wisconsin. I tried to capture the ambiance of outdoor summer dining and relaxation here in southern Wisconsin. Please enjoy this slice of outdoor Midwest summer life.
