Laurell Brault to be presented with Growing Community Award
We are delighted to announce that our 2019 Growing Community Award recipient is Laurell Brault, founder and coordinator of the Potsdam Snack Pack program.
Laurell initiated this program around her dining room table in 2017, preparing 40 snack packs weekly for students in need. Just two years later, and with the help of a cadre of community volunteers recruited by Laurell, the program now organizes, stocks, and distributes nearly 300 snack packs to hungry children every week.
Laurell is also a GardenShare volunteer at the Potsdam Farmer's Market, helping make sure local families on a limited food budget have access to high quality local food.
To help us recognize the significant contributions Laurell has made to our community, please join us for the 2019 Growing Community Award celebration on Thursday, November 7, at SUNY Potsdam. An open house and registration are scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm in the WISER Center, followed by an award ceremony and locally-sourced dinner in Thatcher Hall. This dinner is provided free to the community due to the generosity of the WISER Center and area businesses. Reservations are required, so stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the date.
