Gravatt is a sanctuary for the ministry of faith formation, hospitality, leadership development, and environmental stewardship.

It has been an amazing summer at Camp Gravatt! Campers both new and old had a great time making friends, swimming in the lake, sharing quiet conversation during devotion, climbing to new heights at ropes, and forming their faith in Foot Prints.

Christ Church Builds a Cabin
|
This summer, a group of determined youth and adults from Christ Church Greenville came down to Gravatt with a mission: to build a much needed cabin on girl's side at camp.
They succeeded! The Christ Church kids worked through one of the rainiest summers we can remember to build MCOMA Cabin, which nestles nicely between Byrd House 2 and Cabin 8. MCOMA can sleep 16 campers and will be the summer home of Gravatt's female CITs. The cabin will also allow us to have more spaces available for female campers each session.
MCOMA is named in honor of five Christ Church youth who were killed in the recent plane crash in Alaska: Meghan, Connor, Olivia, Mills, and Ana. This cabin will remain as a memory of their lives.
We are incredibly blessed and thankful for the generosity of Christ Church and the hard work of this group. We had a great time spending the week with you. Thank you!

2013 Staffers of the Year Award
|
Congratulations to Darby Thompson and Francis Anderson!
Gravatt's Outstanding Staffers ![](https://ih.constantcontact.com/fs116/1101503930659/img/296.jpg?a=1114361579483) are selected each summer by their peers and exhibit qualities representative of Camp Gravatt: selflessness, leadership, and commitment. During our All Ages camp session, Father Scotty Brock and Rev. Kellie Wilson presented the 2013 Outstanding Staffer Awards to head female Darby Thompson and art & GEEP director Francis Anderson. Darby was raised in Tega Kay, South Carolina and spent her summers at Gravatt. She and Francis attended the Counselor in Training program at Gravatt in 2008, worked as Junior Counselors in 2009, and joined the permanent staff in 2010. Darby is entering her junior year at USC and is studying Criminal Justice. Her peers on staff see her as a true Gravatt woman and loving role model. Darby's favorite part of camp is building relationships with returning staff and campers and meeting new people every summer. Francis was raised in Columbia and is currently enrolled at Furman University where he studies Psychology and Sociology. Described by his peers as a driving force behind camp life, Francis' appreciates the unstructured time at camp the most whether it a great conversation with campers during tent devotion or a fun, creative choice period. We are proud of Darby, Francis, and the entire 2013 staff who work tirelessly to make Camp Gravatt a wonderful place. ![](http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs116/1101503930659/img/297.jpg?a=1114361579483) Rev. Kellie Wilson, Darby Thompson, Francis Anderson, and Rev. Scotty Brock Fun Fact: Father Scotty was the first ever recipient of the Outstanding Staff Award in 1983. We are in the midst of a GREAT week of Reach Out Camp! 40 campers are having a blast here at Gravatt - all thanks to the generosity of our donors and community partners who make it possible to offer this session completely free of charge.
ROC is a special camp session offered to children with one or more incarcerated parents. Their time at Gravatt is something many look forward to all year and they are swimming, canoeing, singing around camp fire, and hanging out at high ropes.
![](https://ih.constantcontact.com/fs116/1101503930659/img/302.jpg?a=1114361579483) Dumpster Depot, Aiken Rotary, Aiken Sunrise Rotary, and many individual donors - like you - sponsored campers.
St. Thaddeus of Aiken, Juniper Restaurant in Ridge Spring, Chick Fi La, US Foods, Publix, and Kroger all provided meals, served our kids, and gave gift cards.
ROC is one of our favorite outreach programs at Gravatt and it would not be possible without your support. If you are interested in supporting ROC in 2014 or know a child who would benefit from this program, please contact Meredith .
