The Milwaukee Winter Club (Non-Profit Youth Hockey Organization) has submitted a proposal to provide and utilize an ice rink at Cahill Park. The proposed rink would be installed over six of the existing tennis courts and would be in place from mid-November to mid-March. In addition to use by the Milwaukee Winter Club, the proposal also includes the availability for use by the general public. Information meeting:
The Whitefish Bay Village Board will be reviewing the request at its meeting on Monday, August 5. The meeting will begin at 6:00 pm at Whitefish Bay Village Hall and is open to the public. There will be an opportunity for the public to provide feedback during the meeting.
It is important to note that the proposal is conceptual at this time. Did you know? Over ten years ago, July was designated Minority Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States to bring awareness to the struggles underrepresented groups face with regards to mental illness. Data suggest racial and ethnic minority groups in the U.S. are less likely to have access to mental health services, less likely to use community mental health services, more likely to use emergency departments, and more likely to receive lower quality care. Poor mental health care access and quality contribute to multiple poor mental health outcomes, including suicide, among racial and ethnic minority populations. Some barriers to care have included lack of culturally competent providers, lack of diversity among mental health care providers, language barriers, mental health stigma, lack of insurance or underinsurance.
While the term ‘minority’ is traditionally associated with racial, ethnic, or cultural minorities within the U.S., Mental Health America expands this term to include individuals from a wide-range of marginalized and underserved communities, including those who may identify as part of the LGBTQ+ spectrum, refugee and immigrant groups, religious groups, and others who are often overlooked. Mental health conditions do not discriminate based on race, color, gender or identity. Anyone can experience the challenges of mental illness regardless of their background. However, background and identity can make access to mental health treatment much more difficult.
