Inquiries Concluded

 

  • 23 August 2022 – Mr Gary Spencer pleaded guilty to a charge issued by HRNSW Stewards pursuant to AHRR 190(1), (2) & (4) following a report from the from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Scopolamine was detected in the post-race urine sample taken from LOUIGI following its win in race 7, the HRNSW 2YO GUARANTEED PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Newcastle on Friday 6 August 2021;

 

The reserve portion and control solution was confirmed by Racing Analytical Services Limited in Victoria.

 

HRNSW Stewards were satisfied to the requisite standard that the positive sample had resulted from environmental contamination. Consequently, pursuant to AHRR 256(6) a conviction was recorded, however, no further penalty imposed.

 

The subject horse was disqualified under the provisions of AHRR 195.

 

  • 29 August 2022 – Mr Darren Hancock pleaded guilty to a charge issued by HRNSW Stewards pursuant to AHRR 190(1), (2) & (4) following a report from the from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Metformin had been detected in the post-race urine sample taken from MASTER GOUDA following its win in Race 5, the BUBBA GUMP PEST CONTROL PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Menangle on Tuesday 22 March 2022.

 

The reserve portion and control solution were confirmed by Racing Analytical Services Limited in Victoria.

 

HRNSW Stewards were satisfied to the requisite standard that the positive sample had resulted from contamination within the stable environment. Consequently, Mr Hancock was issued with a $1500 fine.

 

In addition, HRNSW Stewards issued a charge against Mr Dennis Upton pursuant to Australian Harness Racing Rule 239A. Mr Upton pleaded guilty and was also fined $1500.

 

The subject horse was disqualified under the provisions of AHRR 195.

 

  • 31 August 2022 – Mr Alistair Copps pleaded guilty to a charge issued by HRNSW Stewards pursuant to AHRR 193 (3) in relation to a treatment provided on Tuesday 22 June 2021 to the registered standardbred POPS BOY, a horse trained by Mr Alistair Copps that was engaged to race at Tabcorp Park Menangle on that date.

 

Mr Copps was fined $750.

 

The horse was withdrawn from the subject race by order of the Stewards.

 

 

Appeal Decision

 

  • 8 August 2022– Mr Nathan Xuereb appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to suspend his licence for a period of 7 days and a $400 fine following a breach of AHRR 156(2) when driving SWEET ANNIE NZ in Race 3 at Penrith on Thursday 17 March 2022. By decision of the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal the appeal was dismissed.


  • 22 August 2022– Mr Bruce Fox appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to disqualify him for a period of 12 months in respect of a breaches of AHRR 190(1), (2) & 4 and AHRR 196A(1)(ii). The appeal against penalty was upheld and the penalty was amended to a period of suspension of 12 months and 8 months the respective breaches, to be served concurrently.

 

Integrity Information

 

  • During the month of August 2022, HRNSW Integrity department obtained 885 Race day samples.

 

As per normal HRNSW procedure all samples have been submitted for analysis.
