Hello!
We hope you are doing well and that you were spared from the damage of Hurricane Isaias which has affected so many of our homes and organizations. Con Ed reported that the outages from Isaias are the second largest in the company's history, second only to those resulting from Superstorm Sandy. Many roads remain closed due to fallen trees, limbs and power lines.
We hope the clean up goes well.
This past week, the Council was honored to host two very different events, a briefing from NY Attorney General Letitia James and a cooking event with Westchester community shaliach Nadav Shachmon. We have included links below for both events in case you missed them. Thank you to the strong attendance at both online programs.
Have a happy and healthy weekend.
Shabbat Shalom.

We welcome honoree nominations for this year's Thanksgiving Diversity Breakfast which will be held virtually on Thursday, November 19th. The honoree should be a person who embodies this year’s theme: And Justice for All. We look to honor those who dedicate themselves to counter discrimination and to break down barriers and prejudices. Through their efforts, the honoree will inspire others to build a society that is more equal, just, and fair from a variety of perspectives – income, education, environment, health care, criminal justice, etc. They may do this within their faith group, community work or profession.
The full committee will be reviewing the nominations at their next meeting on Monday, August 10th at 5:00pm. You are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting to support your nomination, as well as to assist in planning this special annual event.
Thank you,
The Thanksgiving Diversity Breakfast Committee

From Racial Injustice to Community Change
Whether it’s protests in the streets or signs in apartment windows, calls for racial justice are everywhere. We are a multi-racial Jewish community dedicated to healing a fractured world. But, in these turbulent times, what can we do beyond making a statement to make a meaningful difference? The answer is: quite a lot! In this highly participatory online workshop, we will explore historical and contemporary cases that will prepare us to join with our own communities and our neighbors. You will get a chance to reflect on your own experiences and leave with new tools that will enable you to take action and engage effectively with friends, colleagues and community leaders.
Join one or more of these stand-alone, and connected, sessions, the first of which is August 7th. Presented by JOIN for Justice: The Jewish Organizing Institute and Network, with support from UJA Federation of New York.
Session 1 - Friday, August 7th, 2-4pm est.
