Without looking at the calendar it is possible to tell that the Labor Day holiday is approaching. Weekday beach attendance is minimal with kids back in school, and the water is like glass Monday through Thursday. While the recreation season never seems long enough, there is a welcome calmness for office staff as we begin to shift our focus from recreation to our on-going projects, future projects, upcoming events, and government reporting.
This weekend, please keep safety in mind as all our residents and lake users come out to celebrate a successful and waning boating season. DNR Conservation Officers and LLCD Lake Patrol will be on the water this weekend to ensure all are celebrating within reason and that boating regulations do not fall to the wayside.
Our hydraulic dredging operations will continue through the fall, so please be mindful of the equipment and piping when boating near the Bean Blossom Creek delta. While we have maintained positivity and projected success of this project, it is a great honor to say that to date we have removed over 105,000 cubic yards of material from the east bay. We continue to monitor the return water from the sediment settling basin and are happy to report the amount of suspended solids in the return water is less than that of the actual lake water. We will continue to monitor this and utilize best management practices and scientific data to guide our decisions. LLCD management is busy working with engineers to design, bid, and retain another hydraulic dredging contract for 2024. The LLCD strives to maximize our impact within the current permitting and disposal constraints. There will be a standalone September dredging update video as well to give a detailed discussion on where we are and where we are heading.
We wish you a Happy Holiday Weekend and cannot wait to update you on our tremendous restoration progress, Cheers!
