Step Up! Nominations Sought for MCA Board
We're looking for MCA members with great leadership potential! If this is you, we urge you to nominate yourself as a candidate for the Board of Directors!

MCA is seeking nominations for board vacancies by August 31. Submissions will be reviewed by the MCA Nominating Committee before eligible candidates are slated for election at the MCA Winter Meeting.

MCA Board of Directors members serve a 3-year term. Serving on the board is a great way to gain additional leadership experience, raise your profile in the industry, and forge new relationships that will benefit you and your career. As a board member, you’ll help direct the business of MCA and help foster the growth and development of the association and industry. In a typical year, the board meets in-person four times and virtually as needed. Board members are expected to be involved in and support MCA programs and activities.

Urge a qualified fellow member to throw their hat in the ring, or nominate yourself by sending an email to Zinat Ali, MCA's operations manager. In your email, please include a little about your background and why you think you'd be a good fit.
MCA Works with National Lab on TABE Panels
MCA has worked with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) on multiple projects, including an ongoing project on thermally anisotropic building envelope (TABE) panels.

ORNL is the US Department of Energy’s largest multidisciplinary laboratory. Among many other charges, ORNL scientists work with innovators and businesses to research, develop, and deploy cutting-edge technologies related to energy efficiency for homes, buildings, and manufacturing.

In the current project with MCA, ORNL staff built a TABE panel (the tan-colored metal panel shown in the photo) using material supplied by McElroy Metals. Inside the panel are pipes circulating water, one set just under each metal face, with a layer of insulation in the center. ORNL’s TABE panel sits in a demising wall of a guarded hot box at the national laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN.
Heat generated by electric resistance is lossless, meaning it’s perfectly efficient. Because of that fact, physics dictates that the amount of electric energy consumed by the heater must be equal to the amount of heat energy escaping through the guarded area of the TABE panel and into the colder chamber.

The purpose of this test is to accurately measure how much heat the water loop inside the TABE panel diverts to an independent heat store (sink). The test is run twice, once with the water loops active and one without. By comparing these two tests, we can know how much cooling energy was saved by diverting the heat. It works in reverse as well to save heating energy.

The project is funded by the government and the industry partner (MCA), with MCA providing its support through contributed materials and time spent on the project by MCA Technical Director Bob Zabcik and task group volunteers.
The research done at ORNL using MCA member-supplied materials could lead to the future of construction, one that relies on metal and is much more energy efficient.
Honor Your Standout Colleagues!
Do you know someone who has made countless contributions to MCA and the metal construction industry? Nominate them to receive the Larry A. Swaney Award or Patrick R. Bush Service Award!

Nominations for the awards will be accepted through September 30. Recipients will be honored at the MCA Winter Meeting.

You can view previous recipients online and nominate someone at the links below today!
This award is bestowed upon an individual who has worked unselfishly toward the success of the association and the betterment of the metal construction industry. The recipient reflects the spirit of Larry A. Swaney, the founding president of MCA, who was committed to promoting communication, cooperation, sharing, and unity; fostering growth; and bettering metal construction.
This award recognizes a volunteer who has made significant contributions to MCA. The nominee must be employed by an MCA member company and have volunteered on an MCA committee, council, or board. This honor was established in the name of Patrick Bush, who was a longtime MCA Board member and Larry A. Swaney award recipient.

Demonstrate Professionalism: Get Certified
Give your customers and prospects an easy way to verify the excellence of your product and employees by seeking roofing or MCM fabricator certification through the Metal Construction Association (MCA).

MCA’s certification programs were created to recognize excellence in metal construction by certifying both high-quality metal roofing products and fabricators experienced in the construction of MCM panels.

When you secure certification through MCA, you can show design professionals, contractors, specifiers, and the public the high standards you align with, whether you’re providing roofing products or fabricating MCMs.
Certification is ideal for panel manufacturers providing metal roofing cladding systems, paint and coating manufacturers, MCM fabricators, and more.
