Help End Section 8 Discrimination
San Diego City Councilmember Georgette Gómez has introduced an ordinance to prevent landlords from discriminating against Section 8 voucher holders. Section 8 vouchers are overwhelmingly used in areas of San Diego that are non-white and relatively less prosperous, which defeats one of the aims of Section 8, to give all people the ability to choose where they live.

Please show up at 202 C Street at 2pm on July 31st to support the ordinance! For more info, visit: https://www.sandiego.gov/cd9/SOIDOrdinance
Criminal Justice Spotlight
On July 11th, NAACP San Diego Branch President André Branch spoke in favor of Women Occupy San Diego’s proposed charter amendment to turn the CRB into the CPP – Commission on Police Practices. The measure passed the Rules Committee on a party line 3-2 vote, and goes on to the full Council, who will decide if it goes on the November ballot.

NAACP San Diego President Dr André Branch spoke forcefully to the National City Government regarding the fatal injuries sustained by Mr Earl McNeil while in the custody of the National City Police Department. The community is not giving up on getting answers for the McNeil family.

Experiencing Discrimination?
Your branch is here to help. If you have experienced discrimination, the very best way to get started is to fill out a Discrimination Complaint. It will get us all the basic facts we need to determine whether we can help you directly or need to refer you to other resources.

109th NAACP National Convention
Our President, First Vice President and Tiny President led a delegation to the 109th NAACP National Convention in San Antonio Texas.

40th Annual ACT-SO Competition
Our ACT-SO Committee took our Gold winner, Ms Jor'Denay Collier, to the National ACT-SO Competition in San Antonio Texas. Despite a performance even more powerful than the one she gave for us in April, Jor'Denay did not win one of three medals. She was, however, chosen as one of only five students to get speaking roles during the awards ceremony, which was a both a tremendous honor and a great learning and bonding experience with peers and performance professionals.

Member Satisfaction Survey
We asked what your thoughts were about your branch and its activities. We got some pretty clear messages about your needs and priorities!

4th Annual Interfaith Prayer Vigil
Our first Interfaith Prayer Vigil was in 2014. In 2016, the NAACP adopted a resolution, proposed by the San Diego Branch, designating August 11th as a National Day of Mourning for African Americans killed in police interactions, and the Prayer Vigil is one way we honor that day.

Please join us as we gather for an evening of prayer to mourn all African Americans who have been killed by the police. We will also pray for other matters of concern including civil rights, jobs, education, health care, and housing.
