August 2026 Newsletter
Growing Stronger Together
| August is a month of connection, wellness, and preparing for an exciting fall at NAMI Fond du Lac County. As we recognize National Wellness Month, we're reminded that taking care of our mental health is just as important as caring for our physical health. This month we're excited to invite you to our Disc Golf Togetherness Event, remind you that Step Up registration closes soon, and continue advocating for accessible mental health care in our community | | Prioritizing Your Mental Wellness | | |
August is National Wellness Month—a reminder that wellness isn't about being perfect. It's about making small, intentional choices that support your mental and physical well-being.
Wellness looks different for everyone. It might mean spending time outdoors, connecting with a friend, attending a support group, getting enough sleep, practicing gratitude, or simply taking a few quiet moments for yourself.
At NAMI Fond du Lac County, we believe mental wellness grows through connection, community, and knowing you don't have to face life's
challenges alone.
Five Ways to Practice Wellness This Month
- Spend time outside
- Reach out to someone you trust
- Move your body
- Practice self-compassion
- Ask for help when you need it
If you're interested in learning more about wellness, check out our Hearts+Minds program that we offer!

There's Still Time to
Join Step Up!
Registration for our annual Step Up to Prevent Suicide campaign closes on August 15.
Step Up is a four-week awareness and fundraising campaign throughout September, National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Participants choose their own activities, set personal or team goals, track their miles, raise awareness, and help fundraise for NAMI's free mental health programs throughout Fond du Lac County.
Whether you walk around your neighborhood, run a marathon, bike the Wild Goose Trail, or simply encourage others to support the cause, every mile helps reduce stigma and bring hope to our community.

Standing Together for
Mental Health Care
| |
Last month, the Fond du Lac County Board voted to close the county's inpatient behavioral health Acute Unit effective January 1, 2027.
Following the vote, NAMI Fond du Lac County released a public statement expressing our concern about the impact this decision could have on individuals experiencing mental health crises and their families.
While we respect the difficult financial decisions facing our county, we remain committed to advocating for accessible, timely, and compassionate mental health care for everyone in our community.
We will continue working alongside community partners and county leadership to ensure people experiencing mental health crises have access to the care they deserve.

Family Support Group
Supporting someone living with a mental health condition can feel overwhelming—but you don't have to navigate it alone.
NAMI Family Support Group is a free, confidential, peer-led support group designed specifically for family members, caregivers, and loved ones of individuals living with mental health conditions.
Through shared experiences, encouragement, and understanding, participants gain practical strategies, hope, and reassurance from others who truly understand the journey.
This group is offered the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm at the NAMI Office: 86 S. Macy Street, Fond du Lac

Create a "Stress Buffer"
Build a small "stress buffer" into your day.
Rather than scheduling every minute, leave 10–15 minutes between tasks or appointments when possible. Those few extra minutes can help you reset, catch your breath, or simply slow down—reducing the feeling of constantly rushing from one thing to the next.
