August News

Greetings,

We are thrilled to announce news about film preservation projects, workshop graduates and upcoming public events with JT Takagi.

To start, our film "Mississippi Triangle" has been preserved and will have its premiere at the Asian American International Film Festival in New York. We extend our gratitude to the National Film Preservation Foundation and the New York Women in Film & Television's Women's Film Preservation Fund for their generous support.

In other preservation news, we have announced the fall launch of the historic Newsreel Retrospective (1968-1972). The Retrospective is now available for bookings by film festivals, educational institutions, and cultural organizations worldwide. Programmers can screen Retrospective films between November 2025 and 2026; initial screenings confirmed this fall at prestigious venues including BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), Maysles Cinema, and Anthology Film Archives in NYC, as well as DOK Leipzig in Germany.

TWN Workshop grads actively creating new and exciting films and exhibits. Grace Lee's "BTS Army" opens in theaters this weekend, while Roshawn Bell's "FEMME" film will be part of the Hamilton Arts Festival in New Jersey. Jasmine Murrell's new exhibit "The Serpent, the Medicine and the Invisible Devil" is displayed at the Alice Austen Park & Museum in State Island, and Sujani Reddy's "I'm Not Here" is currently streaming on NewFilmmakers New York.

Lastly, two of our favorite festivals, the BlackStar Film Festival and the Asian American International Film Festival, are starting this weekend! JT Takagi, our Executive Director, will participate as panelist in both events!

Please keep reading for more details on upcoming exhibitions and a list of resources for filmmakers.
