Seeding Hope in Big Sky Country

Last month our coalition came together for our annual summer gathering and board meeting in Billings, MT, where Northern Plains Resource Council (NPRC) has their headquarters.

Every summer our coalition travels to the home base of a member so that we can learn more about their work. While it gives our members a chance to connect – and to dole out our annual Farmy Awards! – the summer gathering is also a time for official business. This year we reviewed our internal health, elected new members and officers of the Executive Committee, and - drumroll, please - adopted our new Strategic Plan! 🎉As a statement of our shared goals and priorities, the Strategic Plan is a roadmap for the next few years of our people-powered movement.

Another major development is the news that, at the close of this year, we will end our shared leadership model with the North American Marine Alliance (NAMA) and Niaz Dorry will step down as NFFC’s Executive Director to focus solely on her role as Coordinating Director at NAMA. NFFC has begun a thoughtful process to find a new Executive Director.

We will have more information to share in the coming months about next steps for our new Strategic Plan, as well as the shared leadership model transition and Niaz's departure. Stay tuned!

"As advocates for the people who grow food and steward our lands and waters, our members are equally invested in the health and vibrancy of the rural regions from which we hail."

American family farmers support Canadian supply management

In solidarity with the National Farmers Union of Canada, NFFC released a statement demonstrating our strong support for supply management of the dairy sector. Instead of attempting to turn the Canadian market into an outlet for U.S. oversupply of dairy production, we should draw insight from the Canadian system and US history to improve the way our own dairy sector is managed.
