Volume VIII, 2022

 August

August days are hot and still,

Not a breath on house or hill,

Not a breath on height or plain,

Weary travelers cry for rain;

But the children quickly find

A shady place quite to their mind;

And there all quietly they stay,

Until the sun has gone away,—

August is too hot for play!

Welcome to many new subscribers who we met during our concert tours this summer, I hope to see you again very soon. We will be recording our CMA supported new Sheroes album under the tutelage of legendary Lenny White in September, hopefully to be released and on tour by Summer 2024.

Both Sides of Joni will be at the London Jazz Festival in November followed by more dates in Germany and Austria - Europe friends and colleagues, please consider workshops with Alexis Cole and/or the band and concerts and send me a note, the show is magic!

And finally, I look forward to returning to Vienna in September for the second year as Professor of Artistic Research and Dean of Music Education at the Jam Music Lab University in Vienna. It's been a busy and inspiring year with new responsibilities and building new networks. There are several artistic research projects in progress, details soon, but most importantly we hosted the 3rd gathering of the International Network for Artistic Research in Jazz, presented the first Jazz Girls Day Vienna and Concert on International Women's Day and are gearing up to publish the initial edition of the Journal for Artistic Research in Jazz (ARJAZZ) through the Research Catalogue. Coming up, I will be keynote speaker at the gathering of the German Society for Music Theory at the University of Freiburg, September 22-24 and presenter at the "Destination Unknown: The Future of Jazz" Conference at the Jazz Institute Darmstadt September 28-30. Students at the Jam Music Lab University study and research Jazz and Popular Music styles and in addition to the Bachelor and Masters degrees in Music, Music Education, and Media Music the school has just been accredited for a 6-Semester Arts Administration program. Enrollment is open now, - here is the info.

Thank you for the continued support and wishing everyone a memorable summer and a positive start into the next school year.
