Our Sailing Season has officially concluded! We had a wonderful four months of sailing, sharing our beloved Hudson River with students, advocates, musicians, families, and learners of all ages. On August 11, Clearwater will be hauled out at Scarano Boat Building and then brought down to Kingston by barge, where the sloop will rest on the barge for the duration of the project.
Also coming up this month are our Community Tideline Program on August 5, our third Annual Folk Picnic on August 22, and our Mudlark Homeschool Dropoff Program from August 24-28. Lastly, it's not too late to sign up for Paddle for Our Hudson, and log 20, 50, or 100 miles by September 7 while raising awareness and funds for Clearwater's programs.

Clearwater’s Annual Folk Picnic is a return to our musical roots. In the 1960s, when Pete and Toshi Seeger and their co-founders set out to build Clearwater, they organized community folk picnic fundraisers using music as a tool to unite people behind a shared goal of restoring and protecting the Hudson River. Nearly 60 years later, Clearwater is carrying our musical heritage forward with a free, community-centered day of music, celebration, family activities, and Hudson River advocacy.
| | | | Volunteer Waterfront Docents Needed! | | The Volunteer Docent serves as a public-facing ambassador for Clearwater’s restoration. Docents will engage formally and informally with visitors by answering questions, interpreting the history, construction, restoration, and cultural significance of the vessel, as well as traditional shipbuilding and maritime practices. This role helps create welcoming, educational, and memorable experiences for the public along the waterfront and aboard the vessel when appropriate. Docents will be provided with educational materials and training to support them in their role. This summer, Clearwater is excited to host half-day Community Tideline Programs for parent-child pairs to explore the Hudson River together. These half-day programs will run from 9:30am-1:30pm with a cost of $15 per adult-child pair. Ideal for children 7+, though all ages are welcome.
Our Community Tideline Program invites children and their caregivers to discover the Hudson River together through hands-on exploration along the shoreline. Families will experience the river through science, history, music, and storytelling while catching, identifying, and classifying fish and other aquatic life.
Together, you’ll investigate the health of the Hudson, learn how people have shaped the river throughout history, and explore its role as the birthplace of the modern environmental movement. Through fun, interactive activities, children and adults alike will build a deeper connection to the river’s ecology, beauty, and challenges—and leave with the understanding that the Hudson River belongs to all of us and that we each have a role to play in protecting it. NOTE: There is an $8 fee to park at Nyack Beach State Park unless you have an Empire Pass.

Join Clearwater for a week of hands-on outdoor adventure and river exploration! Designed for children 8-11, this land-based summer drop-off program brings the magic of Clearwater’s environmental education to Long Dock Park. Campers will investigate the Hudson River ecosystem, engage in nature-based games and activities, and build a deeper connection to the environment through science, storytelling, and stewardship. Campers will have the opportunity to go sailing on the Woodie Guthrie on Friday!
Rooted in Clearwater’s mission of inspiring lifelong care for the Hudson, this immersive week nurtures curiosity and connection to the natural world, all while having fun outside with new friends!

| | Join educators from Hudson River Sloop Clearwater for a unique riverside drop-off program for homeschool students ages 7-13. With access to the Hudson River and Hook Mountain, kids will have the opportunity to explore the Hudson River watershed from the shoreline to the mountaintop on the Marydell Faith and Life Center campus. Daily activities include hiking, art, music, nature exploration, science experiments, and games. Each session is one day per week for five consecutive weeks on either Thursday or Friday. | | |

Clearwater’s 2026 Annual Member Meeting will take place on Saturday, October 17 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at the Hudson River Maritime Musuem Barn in Kingston. Current membership is required to attend the Annual Meeting. To check your membership status, email Laura Freeman, Donor Relations Coordinator, at laura@clearwater.org.
Annual Meeting is free and open to all current Clearwater members, though prior registration is required and will open in late August.
Meet Clearwater’s staff and board and hear what the organization has been up to and has planned for the short and long term. In Clearwater tradition, the meeting will feature a potluck lunch and music. Please bring a dish to share and ideally your own cup, plate, and utensils.
Additionally, Board of Directors election results will be announced during the meeting. Ballots will be sent out in mid-September.

Join the Beacon Sloop Club for their annual Corn Festival, a fun, family-friendly event on the Hudson River. Attendees can enjoy sweet Hudson Valley corn, boiled and served with a choice of butter and special toppings, along with watermelon and lemonade. The festival will also feature two stages of live music, craft vendors, river history, children's activities, and sails on the Woodie Guthrie.

The River Pool is a rainbow colored circular floating pool with a netted bottom. It is securely installed in the Hudson River, located off the north shore of Pete and Toshi Seeger Riverfront Park, in Beacon, NY. Swimmers safely sit & float in The River Pool, to relax and cool off with an on-duty lifeguard.
