Name Tag
Why wear a name tag?
  • Name tags encourage conversation;
  • Name tags promote an outward focus;
  • Name tags make guests feel more comfortable; &
  • Some folks aren't great at remembering names!
You can provide flowers for our  Sunday  services, and  also celebrate someone you love.  Flowers can be donated in the name of someone special for a birthday or anniversary, in memory of someone who's passed on, or to the  Glory to God.  On the bulletin board by the coffee pot is a sign-up sheet where you can choose an open date.  The cost is $35.   A check for the cost can be dropped into the collection plate any Sunday with "Flowers" in the memo line.  Thank you!
August 2019
Vestry Corner

By Charlie Dickinson, Senior Warden

Our parish transition and search for a Priest in Charge Under Special Circumstances continues. The Vestry met with candidates in July and is now reviewing candidate background materials and our notes from the interviews.   We are in discernment and we remain in consultation with Canon Catherine+ as we go forward in the process of searching for a new Priest for our parish.  We hope to have a new Priest in Charge Under Special Circumstances with us by mid to late fall.

We want to thank Father Tom Blake for leading our services in June and July.  During August and September, we will have Father Mike Patterson with us during our Sunday services.

The Vestry continues to oversee the day-to-day operation of the Parish during this transition period.  We manage schedules of services and activities, parish finances and building maintenance.  Our Sunday Services and Ministries remain a focus for our Parish.  During the summer we are continuing our fellowship dinners, game nights, Galilee funday/weekend, book club, quilting group and other parish activities.

We look for continued support of the congregation in keeping St. Catherine's a wonderful and welcoming place of worship, and one that serves as an example of Christ's mission to love help others.

Please contact any members of the Vestry with questions or suggestions relative to the operation of our Parish.

Go out & serve: Be a Eucharistic Visitor

Rooted in our Christian faith and practice is the belief that no one should be left out of the Eucharistic Feast!

Eucharistic Visitors are trained to administer communion to people who are unable to attend church. Many of these people are ill or homebound, and going out to offer them communion is one of the most loving ways we can actively care for another.

It shows the recipient that they are not forgotten and that we, as St. Catherine's, continue to honor them as a valuable church member, even after they find themselves no longer able to attend our services.
This ministry requires commitment, preparation and training. If you feel called to this important and loving form of service, a training class for new Eucharistic Visitors will be available at Trinity Cathedral from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 14. There is no cost for this class and lunch will be provided.

If you are interested in this, please contact our Sr. Warden Charlie Dickinson at:  775-853-7850 or  510-504-0908.
Let's Talk Mission: 10 am Aug. 4

By Kevin Goss, Vestry Member

On Sunday, August 4, between the 9 & 11 a.m. services, St. Catherine's will hold a Civic Academy session to help us explore a new mission for us to adopt.

Veronica Galas from the Nevadan's for the Common Good will join us to facilitate small group discussions where we will identify issues in our community that are important to us.

This is the beginning of the process to identify an outreach program that will have significance for our parish.  Please join us (and bring some finger food to share) for an important and interesting outreach discussion.  Thank you.
Baby Bundles

By Ann Crase

"Baby Bundles" is composed of and supported by members of St. Catherine's and Trinity Episcopal Churches. With items donated by both congregations, volunteers assemble "Bundles" of layette items for St. Mary's and Renown hospitals. They are then distributed by hospital staff to disadvantaged new parents who have little or nothing for their newborn.

This month we'd like to acknowledge Ann Towner for her generosity.

Any help with the following items would be greatly appreciated:
  • Unisex outfits
  • Unisex socks
  • Boys' afghans or quilts
  • Boys' bibs
  • Boys' colorful onesies
  • Boys' washcloths
  • Boys' receiving blankets
  • Girls' washcloths
  • Girls' receiving blankets
Clothing should be sized between 0 and 3 months.
Monetary donations are always welco me, too, if you'd like us to shop for you God Bless!

Questions? Contact Susan Lombardi at 329-2044 or Ann Crase at 356-1155.
New phone number, mailing address

Please note, St. Catherine's has updated its phone number.  The last four digits stayed the same but the first three number changed to 851.  The new number is:  (775) 851-4168.  We also moved our mailing address closer to home at the McCabe USPS branch:  P. O. Box 17831, Reno, NV 89511.
Automatic bill pay for your pledge

Some St. Catherine's members have found it very convenient to use their bank's "bill pay" service to handle their pledge to the church.  You can instruct your bank to have a check of a certain amount generated on a certain date, which will then show up automatically each month at the church's P. O. box.  If you're interested in setting this up to save yourself the step of writing checks for your pledge, please talk to your bank or financial institution to find out the details.
