Swimming from tree to tree that mildewed day
In latter August when the hay
Came creaking to the barn." 1

August's Exhibition

Art and Crafts by the DiBonaventura Family

Hand drawn by Jimmy McClaskey.
Colored by Araclis Biel.

The Jacob Edwards library is pleased to host the work of local and regional artists who are members of the extended DiBonaventura family this August.  In a vast array of artworks, family members display their creativity, artistry and ingenuity.  Due to the closure of the Library, the varied artworks will be featured digitally on the JEL Facebook page throughout the month. Read here to learn more about the skillfulness of the DiBonaventura Family:

"So how did an Italian immigrant from Ellis Island wind up in Southbridge? The answer is that when the Titanic sank, the owner of the Southern New England Railroad ended the project, which resulted in the loss of the immigrant's job. The American Optical was hiring, and our family roots in Southbridge began to take hold. That first generation here fought in two World Wars and the Korean War, attended our churches and schools, and raised their families in the community. Over a century later, we still are proud to reflect on our Italian American experience here.

We hope you enjoy the works of art you see in this virtual show. It represents some of the skills and creativity that were influenced and encouraged by our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. Although we can't recreate the aroma of our food or the pure joy and laughter of family reunions here, hopefully the narrative through photographs, crafts, artwork, and chests will make this evident."
